How to Do GEO for B2B SaaS in AI Search: Comparison Pages, Reviews, Docs

Where ChatGPT and Google AI Mode get their B2B SaaS answers, measured across 95 citations, and the six-step GEO programme that fixes each source.

Dark slabs rising like steps, the top step marked in indigo

Quick answer

Canlah AI does GEO for B2B SaaS in six steps under this method: exact prices in plain text, owned vs and alternatives pages, crawlable documentation, corrected review-platform profiles, a disclosed community footprint and a locked prompt panel per engine. GEO for B2B SaaS is the work of making a software product appear, accurately, in the shortlist an AI engine writes when a buyer asks which tool to buy.

The six steps follow from a Canlah AI citation study published on September 23, 2026, in which 12 B2B SaaS buyer queries produced 95 citations from two engines that read different sources. ChatGPT took about 29 of its 55 citations from vendors’ own pricing pages plus about seven from help centres. Google AI Mode took about 16 of its 40 citations from YouTube, Reddit and LinkedIn and most of the rest from comparison pages and listicles.

The pricing page and the documentation are what ChatGPT reads; comparison pages, review-platform profiles and community threads are what Google AI Mode reads. Canlah AI operates the free audit described below and runs those five asset families as one measured programme across ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode.

Treat any single result as directional, because one run cannot prove stable share of voice, causation or future recommendations. If a first check reveals a gap, freeze a panel of buyer questions and repeat it by engine and market before deciding what to change.

Disclosure: Canlah AI publishes this guide and operates the AI visibility audit described below. The citation figures come from its own measurement archive and have not been independently audited. Third-party platform descriptions come from public pages reviewed on September 23, 2026 and were not tested through paid accounts.

What GEO for B2B SaaS measures

A SaaS GEO baseline records six things for every answer, because a single visibility score hides which of them is broken. Generated answers change by question, engine, account state and time, so the same shortlist question asked twice can return a different set of vendors.

  • Mention: whether the answer names the product at all for a category question such as “best ticketing software for a small business”.
  • Shortlist position: whether the product is the lead recommendation, one of three to five named options or a passing reference after the shortlist closes.
  • Citation source: whether the answer cites your pricing page, your documentation, a review platform, a competitor’s comparison page, a Reddit thread or nothing visible.
  • Fact accuracy: whether the plan names, seat prices, billing rules, integrations and deployment model are described correctly.
  • Competitor set: which products the engine treats as your alternatives, which is often a different list from the one your sales team uses.
  • Answer language and market: whether the result changes between English and Chinese engines, and between a global and a country-scoped question.

Fact accuracy is the item SaaS teams underrate. An engine repeats the price it retrieved, so a stale per-seat figure in a help-centre article becomes the number a buyer brings to a sales call.

Where AI answers about B2B SaaS come from

Vendor pricing pages supplied about 29 of ChatGPT’s 55 B2B SaaS citations, while YouTube, Reddit and LinkedIn supplied about 16 of Google AI Mode’s 40, so the two engines answered the same 12 queries from different layers of the web. The queries covered CRM, help desk, project management, payroll and accounting shortlists, including “HubSpot vs Salesforce for a small business, which is better” and “how much does monday.com cost per user”. The most-cited domains were hubspot.com with nine citations across both engines, youtube.com with nine entirely inside AI Mode, reddit.com with four entirely inside AI Mode and monday.com with three on both engines.

Source type ChatGPT (55 citations) Google AI Mode (40 citations) What it means for your programme
Vendor pricing page About 29, the largest single share Present, a minority of the other 24 Publish exact plan prices and billing rules in text, not in an image or a JavaScript widget
Vendor help centre and docs About 7 Rare Keep docs public, crawlable and dated; an authenticated docs site is outside retrieval
Competitor and media comparison pages Occasional, within the other 19 Common, the main vs-question source Publish your own “vs” and “alternatives” pages rather than leaving the category to third parties
Listicles and category rankings Occasional, within the other 19 Common for “best tool for” questions Earn inclusion in the roundups that already rank for your category question
YouTube, Reddit and LinkedIn Not observed in this sample About 16 combined, 40 percent of 40 Participate with disclosure; demo videos and honest threads are retrievable evidence

Source: Canlah AI citation study, 60 queries across five verticals and 526 citations, published September 23, 2026. The SaaS slice is 12 queries, 95 citations and 57 domains. Sampling limits are listed under Method and sources. “Not observed in this sample” means none of the 55 ChatGPT citations came from that source type; it is not proof that ChatGPT never cites it.

In the same study, about 73 percent of the facts an engine copied sat in the first 30 percent of the page, and in the SaaS slice 15 of 19 traceable copies did. On official pricing pages, seven of eight put the price card immediately under the H1. Put the number where it is read.

How to do GEO for B2B SaaS in six steps

GEO for B2B SaaS takes six steps, ordered by how directly each one fixes a source the two engines were observed citing: the pricing page, comparison pages, documentation, review profiles, the community layer and a measurement panel. Steps 1 and 3 mainly feed ChatGPT; steps 2, 4 and 5 mainly feed Google AI Mode.

Step 1: Rebuild the pricing page as a fact sheet

State every plan name, the exact per-seat price, the billing period and the seat minimum as plain text above the first fold. ChatGPT cited vendor pricing pages more than any other source type in this sample, and it cannot quote a price rendered inside an image, a pricing slider or a script that runs only after interaction. Write the annual and monthly figures as separate sentences, name the currency and add a dated line such as “Prices effective September 23, 2026” so the engine can tell a current page from a cached one.

Add the rules a buyer asks about in the same block: what happens when a seat is added mid-cycle, whether unused seats are refunded, which plan gates SSO and what the overage rate is. These are the questions engines answer badly, and a vendor page is the authority on them.

Step 2: Own the vs and alternatives pages before a competitor does

Publish one page per serious competitor pair, titled the way buyers type it, because comparison pages were the main source Google AI Mode used for vs questions. In the wider study, eight of the 12 comparison pages examined were SaaS pages, and AI Mode cited them far more often than ChatGPT did. Lead with a verdict table whose header row carries the judgment: Dimension, your product, the competitor, Winner. Engines copy the header row along with the cells.

Concede the rounds you lose. A comparison page that awards every round to its publisher is treated as marketing copy by buyers and gives an engine nothing to quote when the honest answer is “the other tool for this scenario”. Canlah AI’s own comparison pages follow the same rule.

Step 3: Make the documentation and help centre retrievable

Publish documentation on a public, crawlable path and give the site an llms.txt index so assistants can enumerate pages before fetching them. Mintlify, a hosted documentation platform, hosts llms.txt and llms-full.txt at the project root automatically, and its own documentation states that on a fully authenticated site both files require authentication, so AI tools that cannot authenticate cannot access them. If your docs sit behind a login, they are outside the corpus that answers “how do I connect X to Y”.

Date every article, keep one canonical page per task and remove superseded versions rather than leaving two conflicting answers live. About seven of ChatGPT’s 55 SaaS citations were help-centre pages, which is small in absolute terms and decisive when the question is operational.

Step 4: Correct the review-platform profiles engines read

Claim and complete the profile on every platform that ranks for your category question, starting with G2, Capterra, TrustRadius, Gartner Peer Insights and PeerSpot. Category placement matters more than star average, because an engine reading a category page inherits whichever category you are filed under. As of September 23, 2026, TrustRadius runs a dedicated “AI Visibility Software and GEO Tools” category, G2 markets an MCP endpoint that exposes its buyer signals to AI workflows and PeerSpot sells an AI and LLM visibility product to vendors.

Review volume alone did not produce recommendations in Canlah AI’s published restaurant case: a group with 3,452 reviews rated 4.5 stars or higher received zero recommendations across 49 non-branded probes on three engines. Treat reviews as one retrievable source among several, and check what the profile actually says about your pricing and deployment model before chasing more of them.

Step 5: Earn presence in the layer Google AI Mode reads

Build the YouTube, Reddit and LinkedIn footprint deliberately, because about 16 of AI Mode’s 40 SaaS citations came from those three domains. A recorded walkthrough that answers a comparison question is a more useful asset than a polished brand film for this purpose, since the engine is retrieving an answer, not an impression.

Participate under a disclosed company account and answer the question that was asked. Undisclosed accounts are a moderation risk on every large community, and a removed thread is a source that stops feeding answers. Canlah AI treats community work as a disclosed off-site activity with a logged posting record.

Step 6: Measure on a locked prompt panel per engine

Freeze 20 to 30 buyer questions across category, comparison and alternatives intent, run each at least three times in fresh sessions per engine and record who was named, in what position and from which cited source. Report the result as a range across runs rather than a single score, because the run-to-run spread is the measurement. Canlah AI’s own September 7, 2026 self-audit ran six funnel layers, 39 questions and 234 probes against canlah.ai, and it publishes that curve for the same reason it asks clients to accept ranges.

Keep the panel fixed for at least 90 days. Changing the questions and the content in the same month makes any before-and-after comparison unreadable.

The SaaS GEO asset framework

The SaaS GEO asset framework tracks six assets, and each one maps to the engine it mostly fed in this sample and to one decision it supports.

Six SaaS GEO assets, what to record and the decision each supports, September 23, 2026.

Asset Engine it mostly feeds What to record Decision it supports
Pricing page ChatGPT Plan names, exact per-seat price, billing rules, effective date, whether the figure is plain text Whether the engine can quote your price at all
Documentation and help centre ChatGPT Public path, crawl status, llms.txt presence, article dates, duplicate answers Which operational questions you can win
Comparison and alternatives pages Google AI Mode One page per competitor pair, verdict table, conceded rounds, publication date Whether a third party defines your category for you
Review-platform profiles Google AI Mode Category placement, plan and pricing fields, deployment model, response coverage Which profile to correct before adding review volume
Community and video layer Google AI Mode Disclosed accounts, question answered, thread status, video transcripts Where to participate in the next 90-day panel window
Prompt panel All engines 20 to 30 locked questions, three or more runs, engine, date, cited sources Whether anything changed, and because of which asset

How to interpret five common results

Five result patterns appear in a first SaaS GEO baseline, and each one points to a different first fix. Diagnose the pattern by engine before writing any new content.

Not named in any shortlist answer. Confirm the question is one your product genuinely serves, then check crawl access before writing content. A CDN or bot-management rule that blocks GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot or PerplexityBot keeps every page out of retrieval regardless of its quality, and a product that no engine can fetch cannot be recommended.

Named, but with the wrong price. Prioritise correction over exposure. Find the source the answer cited, which is usually an outdated help-centre article, a third-party listicle or a review profile with a legacy plan, correct it there, then re-run the exact question that produced the error.

Named in ChatGPT, absent from Google AI Mode. This is the signature of a strong first-party estate with no secondary layer. Your pricing page and docs are working; comparison pages, listicle inclusion and the community layer are missing.

Named in AI Mode, absent from ChatGPT. The opposite pattern, and usually a first-party problem: a pricing page rendered in JavaScript, gated documentation or a product page that never states the category in plain language.

Named alongside the wrong competitors. The engine has resolved your category from third-party sources rather than from you. Publish the comparison pages for the competitors you actually meet in deals, and correct the category field on every review profile.

What GEO for B2B SaaS cannot do

GEO for B2B SaaS cannot do four things, and a proposal that promises any of them should be asked to put the promise in the contract.

  • It cannot guarantee that an engine will recommend the product to a given buyer, because no vendor controls how an independent model answers every question.
  • It cannot prove that one page change caused an answer to change without repeated observations and a dated timeline.
  • It cannot survive a pricing page that contradicts the help centre. Conflicting first-party facts reduce the chance an engine quotes either.
  • It cannot substitute for a product that the category question is genuinely not about. Engines are conservative about fit, and a mismatch shows up as a passing mention rather than a shortlist place.

Questions to ask before hiring a GEO agency for B2B SaaS

Six questions separate a measured SaaS GEO engagement from a content retainer, and each one should get a written answer before signing.

  1. Which exact category, comparison and alternatives questions, engines and markets will define the baseline?
  2. Will we receive raw answers and cited source URLs, or only a composite visibility score?
  3. Who rewrites the pricing page, the comparison pages and the documentation, and who approves the facts in them?
  4. How many runs per question per engine, and will the result be reported as a range?
  5. Which review platforms and communities will be worked, and how is disclosure handled?
  6. What does the contract explicitly avoid guaranteeing?

The eight-provider shortlist for this category, with delivery models and points to verify, is in the best GEO agencies for B2B SaaS across APAC ranking. Use that page for the vendor decision and this one for the work itself.

When to move from a manual panel to a managed programme

A managed programme becomes the better choice when a panel of 20 to 30 questions, run three times per engine, can no longer be kept by one person. That point arrives when AI-assisted research reaches a meaningful share of pipeline, the product competes in several category questions at once, pricing changes often enough that stale figures circulate or several teams publish facts that must stay consistent.

Canlah AI runs a free AI visibility audit before you choose a plan and scopes any work beyond a plan against the gap it shows. Its limitation for this buyer is evidence: as of October 25, 2026, the clients named on Canlah AI’s product page are GalaxyCredit (licensed lending), ilLido Group (fine dining), Sushi Ryujiro (omakase), SmallRig (consumer electronics export) and an education franchise, none of them a B2B SaaS company, and its published case figures come from other verticals such as the restaurant group cited in step 4.

A single-product company with one competitor may need only a documented monthly panel of 20 questions until the number of engines, markets or stakeholders makes it unreliable. Base the upgrade on measurement complexity, and verify any provider’s claims, including Canlah AI’s, against raw answers and cited URLs before signing.

Frequently asked questions

What is GEO for B2B SaaS?

GEO for B2B SaaS is the practice of measuring and improving how generative engines retrieve, describe, cite and recommend a software product in shortlist answers. It covers the pricing page, the documentation, comparison and alternatives pages, review-platform profiles and the community layer, measured on a fixed panel of buyer questions per engine.

Is AEO for SaaS companies different from GEO for SaaS companies?

AEO and GEO for SaaS companies differ more in label than in the work. Answer engine optimization is usually described as winning the direct answer, while generative engine optimization is described as being retrieved, cited and recommended inside a generated response. In practice both require the same assets, so treat a vendor’s choice of acronym as branding and compare the deliverables instead.

Can a GEO agency guarantee that ChatGPT will recommend our product?

No. A GEO agency can guarantee the work, the sampling and the reporting for a SaaS product. It cannot control how ChatGPT or any other independent model answers every question, so treat a guaranteed recommendation as a warning sign rather than a differentiator.

Which pages should a SaaS company fix first for AI search visibility?

A SaaS company should fix the pricing page first, because vendor pricing pages supplied about 29 of ChatGPT’s 55 SaaS citations in Canlah AI’s September 23, 2026 citation study. The documentation comes second, then one comparison page for each competitor you meet most often in deals. Review-platform category placement comes next, and community and video work last, because it takes the longest to compound.

Does llms.txt help a SaaS product get cited?

An llms.txt file helps engines enumerate and fetch SaaS documentation, which is a retrieval problem, not a ranking one. A public commitment from an AI engine to rank pages listed in llms.txt was not found in the pages reviewed on September 23, 2026. Treat the file as low-cost housekeeping alongside crawl access and clean HTML rather than as a visibility tactic.

Is Canlah AI a GEO agency or a tool?

Canlah AI is a Singapore-based SEO + GEO agency that measures and improves brand visibility inside ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, reporting AI visibility as re-verifiable ranges with timestamped evidence. None of the clients named on its product page as of October 25, 2026 is a B2B SaaS company, so SaaS buyers should ask for the raw answer archive from a comparable engagement before signing.

Method and sources

The citation figures in this guide come from a Canlah AI study of 60 buyer queries across five verticals, run against ChatGPT and Google AI Mode and published on September 23, 2026. The B2B SaaS slice covers 12 queries, 95 citations and 57 domains, with 21 cited pages examined individually. Queries were taken from Google autocomplete with a Singapore locale, so People Also Ask and community-sourced phrasings are absent; only the first 600 characters of each answer were retained; gusto.com and capterra.com returned 403 to the crawler and are under-counted. The study is vendor-run and has not been independently audited. Platform descriptions were checked on public pages on September 23, 2026 and were not verified through paid accounts.
