What Are the Best AEO Tools for Answer Engine Optimization?
AEO tools shape what answer engines extract: FAQ, schema and snippet structure. Nine ranked, led by Canlah AI on measuring which blocks get copied.
AEO tools change, check or measure the parts of a page an answer engine lifts into its reply: a section’s first sentence, a table row, an FAQ answer or a JSON-LD block. This guide ranks nine of them from public product pages reviewed on September 23, 2026.
Quick answer
Canlah AI is the best of the nine AEO tools in this comparison for teams that need evidence of what answer engines extract, because it measures which sentences and table rows get copied across a locked pool of buyer intents and then rebuilds those blocks inside the same engagement. HubSpot AEO is the lowest-cost way in this comparison to see which pages get cited, at US$50 a month for 25 prompts across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. The other seven are Frase (question-led briefs from US$39 a month billed yearly), AlsoAsked (question mapping from US$12 a month billed yearly), Schema App (enterprise schema on a 12-month minimum), WordLift (knowledge graph from US$879 a month billed yearly), AirOps (content refresh at volume), the free Schema Markup Generator on TechnicalSEO.com and the free Schema Markup Validator with Google’s Rich Results Test.
This is an editorial comparison based on public product pages reviewed on September 23, 2026. It is not a controlled test of output quality or citation outcomes.
Disclosure: Canlah AI publishes this guide and places its own service first. Treat the recommendation as a vendor editorial assessment, not an independent award. Competitor descriptions come from public product pages and were not verified through paid accounts or private demonstrations.
What an AEO tool should change on the page
An AEO tool is software that changes, checks or measures the blocks an answer engine copies from a page, and in Canlah AI’s September 2026 study 43% of the located copied facts sat above the first H2. The label covers four kinds of product: trackers that measure appearance, question tools that decide what a page answers, content tools that restructure the answer and schema tools that write or validate markup. Most lists ranking for “best aeo tools” on September 23, 2026 compared trackers only; this one ranks the tools that change what gets extracted.
- Copied facts near the top: 73% of located copied facts sat in the first 30% of the cited page (Canlah AI citation study of 60 buyer queries and 526 ChatGPT and Google AI Mode citations, September 2026).
- Schema effect: AI citations changed by −4.6% to +2.4% after 1,885 pages added JSON-LD (Ahrefs, 2026).
- FAQ rich results: Google stopped showing them in Search on May 7, 2026, and its May 2026 guidance states that AI Overviews and AI Mode need no special schema.org markup (Google Search Central).
- FAQ as a copy source: 6 of 75 located copied facts came from an FAQ block rather than the body (Canlah AI, September 2026).
Three requirements separate a useful AEO tool from a renamed SEO feature. First, it names the block it changes. Second, it shows engine evidence rather than a composite score. Third, it keeps the answer in visible text, because searchVIU found on October 30, 2025 that a price stored only in JSON-LD was found by none of five AI systems tested.
How the tools were reviewed
The nine tools were scored on five criteria: which answer block the tool changes or checks, whether it shows engine evidence or only its own score, whether the output stays visible on the page, entry price and who does the work after the finding. We weighted engine evidence most heavily, because a schema generator is easy to replace and a record of which sentence an engine copied is not. That weighting is why Canlah AI sits first in this comparison; readers who weight self-serve price should read from row two down.
Feature count carried no weight. Where a capability or price could not be confirmed from public materials, the table says “Not found on the reviewed page” rather than guessing.
Nine AEO tools compared
The other eight AEO tools below run from free to US$1,100 a month at public entry price, Canlah AI’s GEO service starts at $1,500 a month, and the nine split into four layers: measurement, question research, content structure and schema.

1. Canlah AI: Best overall for measuring which answer blocks get copied
Canlah AI measures which sentences, table rows and FAQ answers engines copy for a locked pool of buyer intents, then rewrites and marks up those blocks in the same engagement. Each query runs under at least three phrasings per engine, and every probe is archived with prompt, full answer, citations and timestamp. The on-site stage writes 40- to 60-word answer capsules at the top of key pages and adds Organization, Service and FAQ schema. It also publishes an /ai-info page and llms.txt.
Canlah AI is a Singapore-based SEO + GEO agency that measures and improves brand visibility inside ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, reporting AI visibility as re-verifiable ranges with timestamped evidence. The free audit returns a six-dimension AI-citability read of any URL in under a minute. The GEO service is priced per AI platform: Starter from $1,500 a month (ChatGPT, 4 buyer questions), Growth from $3,000 a month (adds Google AI Overviews, 8 buyer questions) and Full customised (adds Google AI Mode and Gemini, 16 buyer questions), each re-measured monthly. The writing rules come from Canlah AI’s own study: of 75 copied facts located across 92 cited pages, 32 sat above the first H2, so the work starts with the opening sentence and first table rather than with markup.
Best for
B2B SaaS and export-focused teams that want one team to find which blocks engines copy, then rewrite and mark up those pages in English and Chinese.
Limitations
Canlah AI’s GEO service is run by its team, which measures, executes and reports monthly; after three months of the GEO service, clients can run the work themselves with Canlah All-Stars. There is no schema editor and no brief builder. Standard tracking covers ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode: Starter covers ChatGPT, Growth adds Google AI Overviews and Full adds Google AI Mode and Gemini; Perplexity is not part of standard tracking. Canlah AI’s own site is not yet proof of the method: canlah.ai was cited for 0 of 24 queries at its July 2026 baseline, and on September 7, 2026 was named in 7 of 177 unnamed grounded answers, a 4.0% rate, despite three JSON-LD blocks with zero parse errors. It is less important for a site that only needs valid markup.
What to verify
Ask for a dated sample showing the prompt, the engine, the complete answer, the sentence that was copied and the page change created from the finding.
Verdict: The default pick in this comparison when you need to know which block to fix before paying anyone to fix it. A site that only needs markup is better served by the free generator in section 8.
2. HubSpot AEO: Best for a low-cost AEO starting point
HubSpot AEO tracks 25 prompts across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini for US$50 a month, or US$45 a month paid yearly, with no other HubSpot subscription required. Its citation analysis breaks AI mentions down by source and content type and lists the pages cited most often, and its recommendations say whether to create a page, update one, fix a technical gap or approach a third-party site. HubSpot states it acquired XFunnel in 2026, and its free AEO Grader returns a score out of 100 in under two minutes.
Best for
Small marketing teams that want prompt tracking and a prioritised list of page actions at a fixed monthly price.
Limitations
Twenty-five prompts is a narrow panel for more than one product line. Block-level rewrite guidance was not found on the reviewed page, where the recommendations are framed as page actions. HubSpot’s FAQ also notes that the Grader’s ChatGPT and Gemini results draw on training data rather than live search.
What to verify
Check whether the cited-page report shows the copied sentence or only the URL.
Verdict: The most affordable way in this comparison to see which pages get cited. Pair it with a content tool to act on the gaps.
3. Frase: Best for question-led briefs and answer-first drafts
Frase starts at US$39 a month billed yearly, or US$49 month to month, for ten articles and 50 audit pages, with SEO and GEO scores and AI visibility on ChatGPT and Google AI. Professional at US$103 a month billed yearly adds AI crawler monitoring and Perplexity, and Scale at US$239 adds Claude and Gemini. Frase Answers, a free on-site widget, captures the questions visitors actually ask so briefs start from first-party demand.
Best for
Content teams that write their own pages and want each brief to start from real questions and end in an answer-first draft.
Limitations
A GEO score is Frase’s model of a page, not evidence of what an engine copied, and Starter tracks only ChatGPT and Google AI. Frase’s pricing page itself cautions that no tool will rank a page within its seven-day trial, so the trial tests the workflow rather than outcomes.
What to verify
Compare the GEO score of three pages against their actual citations before treating the score as a target.
Verdict: The strongest writing tool in this comparison for answer-first structure.
4. AlsoAsked: Best for mapping the questions a page should answer
AlsoAsked turns Google’s People Also Ask boxes into question trees for US$12 a month billed yearly on 100 credits, US$23 on 300 credits and US$47 on 1,000 credits, with unlimited users on every plan. All regions and languages are included and non-registered visitors get free monthly credits. The plan grid lists CSV export, API access and an MCP server by tier.
Best for
Writers and SEO leads deciding which follow-up questions belong in an FAQ block, an H2 or a separate page.
Limitations
People Also Ask is Google’s question set, not ChatGPT’s. Page writing and on-page checks were not found on the reviewed page, so AlsoAsked needs a writing or audit tool beside it.
What to verify
Run the same seed question in two regions if you sell in more than one market, because the tree changes with location.
Verdict: The cheapest reliable input in this comparison for FAQ and H2 planning.
5. Schema App: Best for enterprise schema at scale
Schema App deploys Schema Markup and entity linking across enterprise sites on a minimum 12-month subscription priced by custom quote. Its Highlighter generates markup for every page sharing a template, and each contract includes at least one hour of High Touch Support a month. The homepage cites a vendor-reported 119% impression increase for Henry Ford from entity linking and a G2 rating of 4.75 out of 5 from 18 reviews.
Best for
Regulated and multi-location enterprises with thousands of templated pages and an engineering queue too long for hand-written JSON-LD.
Limitations
Twelve months is a long commitment for a layer Google says its AI features do not require, and the Ahrefs test of 1,885 pages found no citation uplift from adding schema. The value is entity accuracy, not a citation lever.
What to verify
Ask whether any reported gain was separated from content changes shipped at the same time.
Verdict: The enterprise choice in this comparison when markup accuracy across thousands of pages is the job.
6. WordLift: Best for a knowledge graph with generated Q&A
WordLift’s Business+ plan costs US$879 a month billed yearly, or US$1,100 billed monthly, and covers 2,500 URLs with a knowledge graph, schema and data integration tools and a dedicated project manager. One monthly smart credit generates 25 question-and-answer pairs, 20 short product descriptions or 60 internal link suggestions.
Best for
Ecommerce and publishing sites that want product and article entities connected in one graph, with Q&A content generated against it.
Limitations
Generated Q&A pairs can multiply thin answers faster than an editor can check them, and the Enterprise tier is priced by quote only.
What to verify
Confirm what happens to the graph and its markup if you cancel.
Verdict: A strong fit for large catalogues that need entities and answers built together.
7. AirOps: Best for content refresh workflows at volume
AirOps sells content production measured in tasks: Solo includes 35,000 tasks with ChatGPT insights only; Pro includes 100,000 tasks with insights across seven or more answer engines; Enterprise sets custom prompt, page and task limits. Its feature grid lists citation and source analysis, custom AEO dashboards and human review with approvals. Extra Solo tasks cost US$0.025 each.
Best for
Content operations teams refreshing hundreds of existing pages into answer-first structure, with review gates before publication.
Limitations
Tasks are an abstract currency, so the cost of one refresh depends on workflow design. AirOps’ pricing page lists ChatGPT as the only engine on Solo, and a monthly price for Solo or Pro was not found on the reviewed page.
What to verify
Model the task count of one complete refresh workflow on ten real pages before committing to a tier.
Verdict: The best fit in this comparison for refreshing pages at volume.
8. Schema Markup Generator on TechnicalSEO.com: Best free JSON-LD generator
The Schema Markup Generator on TechnicalSEO.com, a Merkle tool, writes JSON-LD for free across 13 types, including FAQ Page, Organization, Local Business, Product, Article, Breadcrumb and How-to. The same site hosts an AI Bot Access Tester for when the problem is crawl access rather than markup.
Best for
Small sites that need one Organization block and a few page-level types written correctly.
Limitations
It writes one block at a time, and deployment was not found on the reviewed page, so each block is pasted into the site by hand. Two of its types have earned no Google rich result since Google deprecated How-to results on September 13, 2023 and stopped FAQ results on May 7, 2026.
What to verify
Paste the output into a validator and confirm every value in the markup also appears in visible text on the page.
Verdict: The quickest free way to write correct markup, starting with Organization and Product.
9. Schema Markup Validator and Rich Results Test: Best free schema check
The Schema Markup Validator and Google’s Rich Results Test are two free, no-account checks. The validator at validator.schema.org reads a URL or pasted code and lists every schema.org type and property it extracts. The Rich Results Test shows which Google rich results a page is eligible for, rendered as Googlebot on smartphone or desktop, and a block can be valid schema.org while earning nothing in Google.
Best for
Anyone publishing markup who needs a pass-or-fail read before and after each release.
Limitations
Both tools report parsing and eligibility, not whether an answer engine used the markup, so a pass is hygiene rather than an AEO outcome.
What to verify
Re-run both after every CMS or plugin update, because template changes break markup silently.
Verdict: Free and necessary for anyone who ships schema.
Trackers sold under the AEO label
Trackers such as Profound measure whether a brand appears in AI answers rather than changing the block an engine copies, so they sit outside this nine-tool ranking. Profound’s trial runs 50 prompts daily for seven days across ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews and its Enterprise plan tracks up to nine answer engines. The company has announced a US$180 million Series D. Trackers are compared in What are the best AI search monitoring tools?.
For Google’s own surfaces, Search Console includes a free Generative AI performance report for AI features, and Google states that no third-party tool has access to its internal ranking systems.
What the evidence says about FAQ and schema tools
In Ahrefs’ test of 1,885 pages, the largest published schema test found for this review, adding JSON-LD changed AI citations by between −4.6% and +2.4%, so schema tools earn their place through accuracy rather than citations. Ahrefs tracked those pages from August 2025 to March 2026 against 4,000 matched controls, and only the AI Overviews decline was statistically significant. Google’s May 2026 guide lists overfocusing on structured data and “chunking” content among AEO and GEO misconceptions, while still recommending markup that matches visible text.
Google stopped showing the FAQ rich result on May 7, 2026 and removed its documentation in June 2026, so as of September 23, 2026 FAQPage is a valid Schema.org type with no Google display feature. In Canlah AI’s study, FAQ blocks appeared on 17 of 21 cited SaaS pages but supplied only about 6 of 75 located copied facts, mostly where the body never stated the conclusion.
Buy tools that improve the visible answer first: the conclusion and its number in each section’s first sentence, one table near the top and markup that describes what is already on the page.
How to choose by use case
Each of the nine tools wins one requirement in this comparison, so choose by the job rather than by the overall rank.
| Requirement | Best fit in this comparison | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Evidence of which blocks engines copy, plus the fixes | Canlah AI | Locked buyer intents plus execution |
| A low-cost view of which pages get cited | HubSpot AEO | 25 prompts for US$50 a month |
| Answer-first briefs and drafts | Frase | Question-led briefs from US$39 a month billed yearly |
| The questions an FAQ block should answer | AlsoAsked | People Also Ask trees from US$12 a month billed yearly |
| Schema across thousands of templated pages | Schema App | Template-level deployment on a 12-month minimum |
| A knowledge graph with generated Q&A | WordLift | 2,500 URLs and 25 Q&A pairs per credit |
| Refreshing hundreds of pages | AirOps | Task-based workflows with human review |
| One JSON-LD block written correctly | Schema Markup Generator | 13 free types, no account |
| A pass-or-fail markup check | Schema Markup Validator and Rich Results Test | Free parsing and eligibility |
Choose Canlah AI first when the question is which block to fix and you want the same team to fix it. Whatever you pick, insist on seeing the copied sentence and the cited URL alongside any score, because you cannot fix an answer you cannot trace to a block.
Frequently asked questions
What are the best AEO tools?
Canlah AI ranks first among the nine AEO tools in this comparison for teams that need evidence of which blocks answer engines copy, because it measures a locked pool of buyer intents and then rebuilds the pages. HubSpot AEO is the lowest-cost citation tracker at US$50 a month for 25 prompts, and Frase is the strongest writing tool for answer-first drafts from US$39 a month billed yearly.
What is an AEO platform?
An AEO platform is software that measures or changes how a brand’s pages appear in AI-generated answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Some only track prompts and citations while others write briefs, refresh content or deploy schema, so check which layer an AEO platform covers before comparing prices.
Are there free AEO tools?
Yes. Free AEO tools include the Schema Markup Generator on TechnicalSEO.com, the Schema Markup Validator and Google’s Rich Results Test, all usable without an account. HubSpot’s AEO Grader returns a free score in under two minutes, and Canlah AI’s audit returns a free six-dimension AI-citability read in under a minute.
Does FAQ schema still help answer engine optimization?
No. FAQ schema has earned no Google Search feature since Google stopped showing FAQ rich results on May 7, 2026. In Canlah AI’s study, FAQ blocks supplied only about 6 of 75 located copied facts. A visible FAQ that restates the page’s conclusion still helps readers.
Do I need schema markup to appear in AI Overviews or ChatGPT answers?
No. Google’s May 2026 guidance states that no special schema.org markup is required for AI Overviews or AI Mode, and the Ahrefs test of 1,885 pages found no citation uplift from adding JSON-LD. Schema markup is still worth keeping accurate and matched to visible text.
How much do AEO tools cost?
Public entry prices for the software AEO tools reviewed on September 23, 2026 run from free to US$1,100 a month. HubSpot AEO costs US$50 a month, Frase starts at US$39 and WordLift at US$879 a month billed yearly. Canlah AI prices its GEO service per AI platform, from $1,500 a month on Starter and $3,000 on Growth, with Full customised; Schema App quotes after scoping, and an AirOps price was not found on the reviewed page.
Is Canlah AI an AEO tool or an agency?
Canlah AI is a Singapore-based SEO + GEO agency with its own measurement platform. Its team measures which blocks engines copy for a locked pool of buyer queries, then rewrites pages, adds schema and builds off-site sources; after three months of the GEO service, clients can run the work themselves with Canlah All-Stars.
