Ahrefs Brand Radar Review & Best Alternatives for 2026

Ahrefs Brand Radar review: how its 454M-prompt index samples AI answers, pricing from $199, free options and limits, plus alternatives led by Canlah AI.

Two dark cards side by side, the front one edged with indigo light

A review of Ahrefs Brand Radar for SEO teams and in-house marketers: what the index measures, how it samples AI answers, what it costs and where it stops, then the alternatives worth shortlisting.

Quick answer

Canlah AI rates Ahrefs Brand Radar the broadest AI visibility index in this review, and a buy for category benchmarking rather than for live probes on a single brand’s buyer questions. Brand Radar is an index-based tool that runs 454 million search-backed prompts through six AI surfaces each month and stores every response. Its trade-off is sampling: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot answers refresh monthly on a 90-day reporting window, so the index shows modelled market share, not how an engine answers your exact buyer question on the day you ask it.

In this comparison Canlah AI ranks first as the alternative for teams that need live, repeated probes on a locked set of buyer questions plus managed execution. The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit suits teams already on Semrush, Peec AI fits mid-market teams that want daily custom prompts with unlimited seats, Profound fits enterprise programmes, Scrunch ties monitoring to agent-facing site work and Otterly.AI has the lowest published entry price at $29 a month.

This is an editorial review based on public product, pricing and methodology pages reviewed on September 23, 2026. It is not a controlled test of tool accuracy.

Disclosure: Canlah AI is one of the alternatives below, and we place ourselves first. We compete with Ahrefs Brand Radar for part of the same budget, so this is not a neutral review. What we say about Ahrefs and the others comes from their public materials, and none of the tools were tested through paid accounts.

What is Ahrefs Brand Radar?

Ahrefs Brand Radar is the AI visibility product inside Ahrefs, the SEO software company whose legal entity, Ahrefs Pte. Ltd., is registered in Singapore. Its product page describes two ways to track visibility: an AI Visibility Index of 454 million monthly prompts that needs no setup, and Custom Prompts for the questions your buyers ask. The same page claims more than 3,000 companies as users.

The index splits across six surfaces. Ahrefs lists 312.8 million monthly prompts for Google AI Overviews, 31.3 million for Gemini, 31.2 million each for Perplexity and ChatGPT, 30.8 million for Microsoft Copilot and 16.9 million for Google AI Mode. Custom Prompts add Claude.

Brand Radar reports four headline metrics: mentions, citations, AI Share of Voice and Estimated Impressions, the last weighted by the Google search volume behind each prompt. It also tracks YouTube, TikTok and Reddit results in Google, and pairs with Ahrefs Web Analytics and Bot Analytics.

What Ahrefs Brand Radar does well

Ahrefs Brand Radar is strongest when a team needs to see a whole category before deciding which questions to track. Four strengths stand out on its public pages, and each is documented rather than inferred.

  • Instant category benchmarking. You can search any brand, product or category across the index and get historical responses back to 2025, with no domain cap and no prompt set to design first. Every live-probe tool reviewed here, Canlah AI included, needs a prompt set written first.
  • Prompts tied to search demand. Ahrefs builds the index from its keyword database, which its methodology page puts at 28.7 billion keywords with positive search volume out of 110 billion discovered. Every prompt maps back to a real search, so an SEO team can trace AI visibility to topics it already reports on.
  • Citations and mentions kept apart. Brand Radar counts a mention when your brand name appears in answer text and a citation when the answer links to your pages. The Cited pages report then shows which URLs and domains AI engines use.
  • Custom Prompts inside every paid plan. Ahrefs Lite, Standard and Advanced include 5, 10 and 20 tracked AI prompts at no extra cost, run daily on each selected platform. Subscribers can start tracking buyer questions without buying anything new.

How the Brand Radar index samples AI answers

Ahrefs Brand Radar measures AI visibility from a stored index, not from live probes of your own questions. Ahrefs’ methodology page, updated February 26, 2026, says ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot question sets are re-tested monthly and reported on a 90-day window, while AI Overviews and AI Mode update continuously with the keyword database.

That design has four consequences for anyone reading a Brand Radar number.

  • Freshness is monthly for chatbots. A ChatGPT figure in the index can include answers collected up to 90 days before the selected date, so a model update or a new competitor page takes weeks to show.
  • One stored answer per question, as documented. The methodology describes each query being executed and its raw response stored. Repeat runs of the same prompt within a refresh were not found on the reviewed page, so answer-to-answer variance for a single question sits outside what the index reports.
  • Logged-out, default interfaces. Ahrefs states that prompts run through the free, publicly available web interfaces of each platform. Paid-tier models, signed-in memory and personalisation are outside that sample.
  • Modelled reach, not audience. Ahrefs says Estimated Impressions weight mentions by Google search volume as “a modeling choice, not a measured relationship”, and calls its metrics directional signals, not traffic counts.

None of this is a flaw for benchmarking, because 454 million prompts smooth out single-answer noise through sheer volume. The limit appears when you narrow to the 20 or 30 questions that close deals, where one stored answer per question per month is a thin sample. The live-probe method Canlah AI runs repeats each question under several phrasings instead, and answers a different question: how stable the visibility is on the queries that matter.

Where Ahrefs Brand Radar fits less well

Ahrefs Brand Radar is a broad research layer, which suits SEO teams but sets boundaries for some buyers. Three limits matter most, and each is a scope question rather than a quality judgement.

  • Thin coverage for small or new brands. Ahrefs’ own FAQ says the index “may have limited coverage for brands with little or no search volume” and works best once a brand already appears in AI search. The methodology page adds that coverage is strongest in English and that long-tail or niche prompts may not be included.
  • Chinese engines not found on the reviewed pages. The reviewed pages list AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, Grok and, for Custom Prompts, Claude. DeepSeek, Qwen and Doubao were not found on the reviewed pages. For brands selling into Greater China, that is a material gap to confirm.
  • Monitoring, not delivery. Brand Radar shows where you are missing and which pages get cited, but it is software. Your team or your agency still writes the content, fixes the pages and earns the third-party mentions.
  • Unfiltered links in citation counts. Ahrefs states that it does not filter hallucinated or malformed links from stored answers, because they reflect real model output. Citation counts can therefore include URLs that do not resolve.

Ahrefs Brand Radar pricing and plans

Ahrefs Brand Radar pricing has three layers: the index at $199 per AI platform a month or $699 for all platforms, custom prompt packages from $50 a month, and the Custom Prompts quota inside a regular Ahrefs plan. It can be bought standalone, with an Ahrefs Free account included.

Ahrefs Brand Radar and Ahrefs plan pricing, pages reviewed September 23, 2026.

Option Price per month What you get for AI visibility Sampling caveat to check
AI Visibility Index, one platform $199 Index access for one AI platform, such as ChatGPT or Perplexity Stored index on a 90-day window, not a live query
AI Visibility Index, all platforms $699 Index across all six platforms Six surfaces, still one monthly refresh for chatbots
Custom prompts Basic $50 2,500 checks, about 80 prompts daily on 1 platform Checks are a budget, not a panel size
Custom prompts Growth $100 7,000 checks, about 100 prompts daily on 2 platforms Two platforms burn checks twice as fast; Claude costs eight
Custom prompts Scale $250 25,000 checks Prompts times platforms times frequency sets the real cost
Ahrefs Lite $129 5 tracked AI prompts, 150 checks Five prompts covers one topic, not a buying journey
Ahrefs Standard $249 10 tracked AI prompts, 300 checks 300 checks caps prompts times platforms before overage
Ahrefs Advanced $449 20 tracked AI prompts, 600 checks Your own questions only; the index is priced separately
Ahrefs Enterprise $1,499, annual commitment From 83 tracked AI prompts, from 2,500 checks Annual commitment, so confirm the exit terms first

Source: Ahrefs pricing and Brand Radar pages, reviewed September 23, 2026. One check equals one prompt on one platform in one location for one update, and Claude consumes eight checks per update. Overage costs $0.020, $0.015 or $0.010 per check by package. Annual billing saves up to 17%. Some third-party reviews still quote earlier bundle prices of $828 to $1,148 a month, so confirm current figures on Ahrefs’ own page.

Ahrefs AI visibility pricing therefore depends on which question you are paying to answer: the index prices market research by platform, while custom prompts price your own tracking by check.

Is there a free version of Ahrefs Brand Radar?

A free trial of Ahrefs Brand Radar was not found on the reviewed pages, but two free entry points are documented. Ahrefs’ pricing FAQ states “We never run discounts”, and third-party comparisons from Authoritas and Profound describe the same absence.

The first is the Ahrefs AI Visibility Checker, which needs no signup. It queries ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Google AI Overviews and returns total mentions, a platform breakdown, triggering topics and cited domains. Ahrefs calls it a limited, one-time snapshot powered by Brand Radar. The second is the Custom Prompts quota in any paid Ahrefs plan, from five prompts on Lite.

What Reddit says about Ahrefs Brand Radar

Reddit discussion of Ahrefs Brand Radar clusters around three themes in the threads surfaced by search on September 23, 2026, read through search results rather than as a representative survey.

  • Comparisons first. Posts in r/SEO_for_AI and r/DigitalMarketing ask how Brand Radar compares with Semrush and with dedicated AI visibility tools, rather than reporting long-term use.
  • Price is the recurring objection. Alternatives threads, including a list in r/geotoolsreview, position Peec AI and Otterly.AI as cheaper routes to prompt tracking.
  • Coverage gaps for smaller sites. A post in r/seogrowth describes Brand Radar showing that the author’s articles had not been cited in AI Overviews, which matches Ahrefs’ own note that the index favours brands with search demand.

Ahrefs’ CMO Tim Soulo described Brand Radar in an r/bigseo AMA as having “the largest LLM visibility index on the market”. Treat praise and complaint alike as anecdotal.

The best Ahrefs Brand Radar alternatives in 2026

The right Ahrefs Brand Radar alternative depends on why you are switching: live probes on your own questions, a lower entry price, enterprise controls, site delivery or someone to act on the findings. The table ranks six alternatives, names the sampling model each publishes and gives the one thing to check before signing.

Comparison of Ahrefs Brand Radar and six alternatives, public product pages reviewed September 23, 2026.

“Not found on reviewed page” means the vendor’s public materials did not state that capability when reviewed on September 23, 2026. It is not proof that the capability is absent. Engine lists refer to public positioning, not independently tested access. Only Profound named a Chinese engine, DeepSeek, among the software tools reviewed; Doubao was not found on any reviewed software page.

1. Canlah AI: Best overall alternative for live, repeated probes

Canlah AI is a Singapore-based SEO + GEO agency that measures and improves brand visibility inside ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, reporting AI visibility as re-verifiable ranges with timestamped evidence. Its standard probe set covers ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode on every tier.

Canlah AI ranks first in this comparison because it answers the question an index leaves open. Its measurement protocol locks your selected buyer intents for the contract period, runs each under at least three phrasing rotations per engine with repeated samples, stores every probe as a raw JSON record with prompt, full answer, citations and timestamp, and reports citation frequency as a range. The archive belongs to the client, so a sceptical stakeholder or a rival agency can re-run it.

The second difference is execution: Canlah AI turns the findings into on-site fixes, AI-optimised content and off-site authority work, delivered by six specialised AI agents under human strategists.

Best for

B2B SaaS, export-focused and evidence-sensitive brands that want one accountable team to measure and act, including brands with little search volume and brands selling across English and Chinese markets.

Limitations

Canlah AI is an agency, not a research database. It cannot show a competitor’s AI visibility across millions of prompts on day one, and its pricing page lists 4 buyer intents for the entry tier and 16 for the top tier, each re-measured monthly. Teams that mainly need category benchmarking should keep Ahrefs Brand Radar for that job.

Its own AI visibility is also low. In a September 7, 2026 self-audit of 39 buyer questions run three times each, Canlah AI was named in seven of 84 non-branded OpenAI answers (8.3%), in none of 93 Gemini answers and in none of 51 browser-rendered Google AI Overviews.

What to verify

Ask for a redacted evidence pack showing the prompt, phrasing rotation, engine, full answer, cited sources and timestamp. Confirm in writing which buyer intents your tier includes; Chinese engines are not part of Canlah AI’s standard tracking.

Verdict: The strongest Ahrefs Brand Radar alternative in this comparison when the number has to hold up on your own buyer questions and someone has to act on it. Teams that want a self-serve research index should stay with Brand Radar.

2. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit: Best for teams already on Semrush

The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit costs $99 a month per domain, and a free trial was not found on the reviewed page. It includes 25 prompts for daily Prompt Tracking, 300 daily queries in AI Analysis reports and 10 CSV exports a day, on engines such as ChatGPT and Google AI Mode.

Best for

SEO teams already working in Semrush that want AI visibility beside rank tracking and site audits.

Limitations

Twenty-five tracked prompts is a small panel, each extra user needs another $99 licence, and the broader reports lean on a pre-built query set.

What to verify

Check whether your buyer questions exist in the Semrush index before relying on its visibility score.

Verdict: In an Ahrefs Brand Radar vs Semrush decision, pick the suite your SEO team already pays for. Semrush is cheaper for one domain; Brand Radar’s index is larger.

3. Peec AI: Best for daily custom prompts with unlimited seats

Peec AI starts at $95 a month for 50 prompts on three models chosen from a default six, with unlimited users on every plan. Pro costs $245 for 150 prompts and Advanced $495 for 350, and the site defines visibility, position, sentiment and share of voice in writing.

Best for

Mid-market marketing teams and agencies that want to track their own prompts daily without an enterprise contract.

Limitations

Peec AI’s pricing page lists one run per model per day and caps self-serve plans at three models. DeepSeek and Qwen sit behind paid API add-ons, and a category index of the kind Brand Radar sells was not found on the reviewed page.

What to verify

Price the fourth model or add-on engines you need before comparing tiers.

Verdict: The closest self-serve substitute for Brand Radar Custom Prompts, with more prompts per dollar at entry level.

4. Profound: Best for enterprise programmes

Profound positions itself as an enterprise answer-engine platform with an “AI Marketer” agent layer. Its pricing page lists a free trial of 50 prompts run daily for seven days on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, then a custom Enterprise plan with up to nine engines, SSO/SAML and SOC 2.

Best for

Large organisations that need all-time history, exports, an API and security review in one contract.

Limitations

Profound’s pricing page lists the trial without history, exports or API, and prices Enterprise on request rather than publicly. Profound publishes its own Ahrefs Brand Radar review, so read that comparison as a competitor’s view.

What to verify

Ask which of the nine engines your contract includes and how many runs sit behind each daily data point.

Verdict: The enterprise choice among the alternatives, and the only software tool reviewed that names DeepSeek.

5. Scrunch: Best for agent-facing site delivery

Scrunch Core costs $250 a month for 125 unique prompts on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Copilot, with five user licences and five site audits a month. Enterprise adds Claude, Gemini, Meta AI, Google AI Mode and Grok.

Best for

Technical teams that want monitoring tied to how AI agents read their site.

Limitations

Gemini and Google AI Mode sit on Enterprise only, and Core covers one country, one language and five competitors. Repeat sampling per prompt was not found on the reviewed page.

What to verify

Ask which of the nine Enterprise engines your quote includes, and whether the five site audits a month cover the templates that carry your commercial pages.

Verdict: A fit when monitoring and site fixes belong to one team. Brand Radar gives the wider market view.

6. Otterly.AI: Best for the lowest published entry price

Otterly.AI publishes Lite at $29 a month for 15 prompts, Standard at $189 for 100 prompts and Premium at $489 for 400 prompts. Every tier tracks ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot daily with unlimited team members.

Best for

Solo marketers and small teams that need monitoring and link citation analysis at a published price.

Limitations

Claude, Google AI Mode and Gemini are add-ons, and repeat sampling per prompt was not found on the reviewed page.

What to verify

Add the price of the engines you need to the published tier price, then compare that total with Brand Radar’s $50 custom prompt package.

Verdict: The cheapest entry point among the alternatives reviewed. A category index was not found on the reviewed page.

How to decide between Ahrefs Brand Radar and an alternative

Pick Ahrefs Brand Radar if you need to benchmark a category across millions of prompts without writing a prompt set first. Pick an alternative when one of the conditions below applies.

  • Choose Ahrefs Brand Radar if you run SEO in Ahrefs, your brand has search demand and you want AI Share of Voice mapped to topics.
  • Choose Canlah AI if you need repeated live probes on your own questions, a raw archive you can re-run, English and Chinese prompts or a team that closes the gaps.
  • Choose the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit if your team already works in Semrush and needs one domain tracked.
  • Choose Peec AI if you want daily custom prompts, unlimited seats and published prices.
  • Choose Profound if you need SSO, SOC 2 and up to nine engines.
  • Choose Otterly.AI if budget is the first constraint.

Many teams run two layers: an index for the market view and a probe method for the questions that drive revenue. Canlah AI is built for the second layer. Whatever you pick, ask each finalist how many runs sit behind one figure, when the answers were collected and what you can export.

Frequently asked questions

Is this Ahrefs Brand Radar review independent?

No. Canlah AI publishes this Ahrefs Brand Radar review and sells one of the alternatives in it, so treat it as a vendor editorial assessment. Every capability here comes from public product, pricing and methodology pages reviewed on September 23, 2026, and no tool was tested through a paid account. Read Ahrefs’ own pages and one non-vendor review before buying.

Is Ahrefs Brand Radar worth it?

Ahrefs Brand Radar is worth it for SEO teams that need category-wide AI benchmarking across six platforms, especially if they already pay for Ahrefs. It suits small brands with little search volume less well, and it leaves out DeepSeek, Qwen and Doubao coverage and repeated probes on your own buyer questions.

How much does Ahrefs Brand Radar cost?

Ahrefs Brand Radar costs $199 a month per AI platform for the AI Visibility Index, or $699 for all platforms, on pages reviewed September 23, 2026. Custom prompt packages start at $50 a month for 2,500 checks, and Ahrefs Lite at $129 includes five tracked AI prompts.

Is Ahrefs Brand Radar free?

No. A free trial was not found on the reviewed Ahrefs pages, and Ahrefs states that it does not run discounts. The free Ahrefs AI Visibility Checker gives a one-time, no-signup snapshot powered by Brand Radar, and every paid Ahrefs plan includes a small Custom Prompts quota.

How does Ahrefs track AI citations?

Ahrefs Brand Radar counts a citation when an AI answer links to your page or domain, and a mention when your brand name appears in the answer text. Its Cited pages report lists the URLs AI engines use, and Ahrefs does not filter hallucinated or malformed links from those counts.

Is Ahrefs Brand Radar data live?

Not for chatbots. Ahrefs refreshes ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot question sets monthly on a 90-day reporting window, while AI Overviews and AI Mode update continuously. Custom Prompts can run daily, weekly or monthly on questions you define.

Ahrefs Brand Radar vs Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit: which is better?

Neither is better for every buyer. Brand Radar has the larger prompt index and a per-platform price from $199 a month. The Semrush toolkit costs $99 a month per domain with 25 tracked prompts and suits teams already inside Semrush.

How is Canlah AI different from Ahrefs Brand Radar?

Ahrefs Brand Radar is self-serve software built on a stored index of search-backed prompts. Canlah AI is an agency that probes a locked set of your buyer queries under at least three phrasings per engine, hands over the raw evidence archive and then does the on-site and off-site GEO work. You can start with a free 48-hour snapshot of your own baseline.
