Knowatoa AI Search Console Review & Best Alternatives for 2026
Knowatoa AI Search Console review and six alternatives, led by Canlah AI. Knowatoa has a free 25-bot crawler check, $59 and $199 plans and few third-party reviews.
This review checks Knowatoa, its free 25-agent AI Search Console and its $59 and $199 plans against public pages on September 23, 2026, then ranks six alternatives by how each one sees AI crawlers and AI answers.
Quick answer
Canlah AI ranks first in this review of Knowatoa AI Search Console alternatives for teams that need a locked set of real buyer questions, raw answers they can re-run and one team accountable for closing the gaps. Canlah AI starts with a free AI visibility report within 48 hours or a $99 DeepAudit, and its Starter tier, from $1,500 a month per AI platform, tracks 4 buyer intents on ChatGPT, re-measured monthly. The Knowatoa AI Search Console itself is a free checker that requests your site as 25 AI crawler user agents, and Knowatoa pairs it with paid question tracking at $59 a month for three engines or $199 a month for seven. Otterly.AI is the cheapest daily prompt tracker in this review at $29 for 15 prompts, LLMrefs names ten engines for $79, Peec AI suits teams writing their own prompts from $95, Scrunch bundles site audits and bot traffic from $250 and Profound reads real crawler logs under an enterprise contract.
This is an editorial review based on public product, pricing and documentation pages reviewed on September 23, 2026. It is not a controlled test of tool accuracy.
Disclosure: Canlah AI is one of the alternatives below, and we place ourselves first. We compete with Knowatoa, so this is not a neutral review. What we say about Knowatoa and the others comes from their public materials, and none of the tools were tested through paid accounts.
What is Knowatoa?
Knowatoa is an AI search visibility tool that tracks how seven engines answer questions about a brand, checks whether 25 AI crawler user agents can reach its site and drafts content to close the gaps. The seven engines are ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Meta AI, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. Its About page names two co-founders: Michael Buckbee, a former Director of Demand Generation at Varonis, and Ryan Castillo, a developer and data scientist.
The product has three layers. The free AI Search Console checks crawler access, and paid plans track questions, record answers and cited sources and compare a brand with competitors. On top sit AI agents: Sam researches content gaps, Connie drafts articles and, since May 18, 2026, Sophie drafts LinkedIn and Bluesky posts.
A separate product also called AI Search Console, at search-console.ai, launched on Product Hunt in 2026. It is not Knowatoa’s console.
How the Knowatoa AI Search Console works
The Knowatoa AI Search Console is a free, public checker that requests your site while posing as 25 AI crawler user agents and reports which requests succeed. Knowatoa launched it on June 6, 2025, and its update post says it checks for “active blocks” from firewalls, Cloudflare, CDNs or security plugins, gives per-service guidance on failures and is “completely free to use”.
The reviewed results page groups the 25 agents by owner, from AI2Bot and Amazonbot to GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Bytespider and YouBot. Each row resolves to Succeeded, Needs Investigated or Pending, and the docs explain what 200, 30x, 403 and 404 responses mean.
Three details decide how far a result can be trusted.
- User agents, not real traffic: Knowatoa’s 403 help page explains that the console changes only the user agent, so every request still comes from Knowatoa’s servers rather than from the IP ranges of the bot services. A firewall that verifies bots by IP range can treat the test differently from the real crawler, and Knowatoa recommends confirming failures with your host.
- Bot count by page: The console landing page names ChatGPT and Google Gemini plus “22 other AI services”, the results page checks 25 user agents and the feature page says “15+ AI bot types”.
- Google rows: Googlebot was not found on the reviewed results page. The Gemini row tests Google-Extended, which Google documents as a robots.txt control token with no separate HTTP user agent, and which Google says does not affect inclusion in Google Search. A pass or fail on that row says little about Google AI Overviews or Google AI Mode.
The console is still a quick first check. Its bot-failure guide covers the common case where a Cloudflare, Sucuri or CloudFront challenge page blocks every non-browser visitor.
What Knowatoa does well
Knowatoa is strongest for a small SaaS or content team that wants crawler access, question tracking and first drafts in one account from $59 a month. Four strengths stand out on its public pages.
- Free crawler check: The console needs no account, and the docs name the usual culprits by response header with fix-it steps for each service.
- Languages and markets: Every plan, including the $59 Starter, covers all supported locales. The docs list 34 supported languages, including Chinese (Simplified), Malay, Thai and Vietnamese, and accept every ISO country code, with Singapore among the featured locales.
- Gap to draft: Each gap becomes a brief for an AI agent. Connie drafts articles with internal links and SEO metadata and publishes to WordPress, GitHub or Payload CMS, with an optional daily auto-approve at 10:00 AM EDT.
- Data paths: Growth adds a REST API, an MCP server launched on April 20, 2026, a Looker Studio connector and NinjaCat. CSV exports have been available on all plans since November 4, 2025.
Unlimited sites share one question budget, which suits agencies with many small clients.
Where Knowatoa fits less well
Knowatoa’s $59 Starter plan tracks three of its seven engines, and its public pages leave the question allowance and refresh cadence unclear. Each gap is a question of fit, not of quality.
- Engines on Starter: Starter tracks ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Meta AI start on the $199 Growth plan.
- Question allowance: Not found on the reviewed pricing page. The pricing FAQ says all sites “share the same question limit” and invites buyers who need more questions than the page shows to book a call, yet no number appears on the plan cards.
- Refresh cadence: The documentation says “Knowatoa updates your data weekly”, while the AI Search Console feature page mentions “automated daily monitoring”.
Repeat sampling of the same question within one refresh was not found on the reviewed pages, and neither were DeepSeek, Qwen or Doubao.
Knowatoa pricing and plans
Knowatoa pricing on September 23, 2026 is Starter at $59 a month, Growth at $199 a month and Enterprise on request, all in USD with monthly cancellation, a free trial and annual pricing “available” without a stated discount. The table sets Knowatoa’s own page beside what third-party reviews report, because the two do not match.
Knowatoa plans, pricing page reviewed September 23, 2026, against third-party reports.
| Item | What Knowatoa’s page states | What third-party reviews report | What it means for a buyer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter price | $59 per month | Analyze AI: $59; Rankability, May 26, 2026: $99 Premium tier | Older reviews describe a retired plan structure |
| Growth price | $199 per month | Analyze AI: $199; Rankability: $249 Pro tier | Quote the vendor page, not a review |
| Enterprise | Custom, contact sales | Analyze AI: from $499; Rankability: $749 Agency tier | Ask for a written quote |
| Engines on Starter | ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode | The same three in Analyze AI and EchoWi | Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Meta AI cost $140 more per month |
| Engines on Growth | All seven: adds Claude, Gemini, Meta AI and Perplexity | Analyze AI: all seven | About $28.43 per engine against $19.67 on Starter |
| Question allowance | Not found on reviewed page | Analyze AI: 30 Starter, 100 Growth; Rankability: 30, 300 and 1,500 by tier | Get the number in writing during the trial |
| Refresh cadence | Docs: weekly | Analyze AI describes daily runs | Confirm the cadence for your plan |
| Reporting stack | API, MCP, Looker Studio and NinjaCat on Growth | EchoWi: reporting integrations start on Growth | Starter data leaves by CSV export |
| AI Search Console | Free, 25 user agents on the results page | Rankability lists it on its Free and Premium tiers | Usable without any plan |
Source: knowatoa.com plan cards, pricing page and docs, reviewed September 23, 2026; Rankability (May 26, 2026), Analyze AI (undated) and EchoWi (August 7, 2026) reviews. “Not found on reviewed page” means the vendor’s public materials did not state that item when checked on that date. It is not proof that the item is absent. Per-engine figures are our arithmetic.
As EchoWi’s review also notes, Growth costs more per engine than Starter, so the upgrade buys the API, the MCP server and an account rep as much as engines.
What third-party reviews say about Knowatoa
Independent coverage of Knowatoa is thin: six of the Knowatoa review pages found on September 23, 2026 come from vendors that sell a competing product, and so does this one from Canlah AI. Analyze AI, EchoWi, Menra, Metaflow, Mentionova and Kitbase each end their Knowatoa review or alternatives page by recommending their own tool. Rankability published the most detailed pricing breakdown on May 26, 2026, and its four-tier structure of Free, $99, $249 and $749 no longer matches Knowatoa’s pricing page.
Third-party claims also age quickly. Analyze AI’s review says Knowatoa offers “no content writer”, while Knowatoa’s own update log shows article drafting by Connie and a Publishing Queue added on May 18, 2026. G2’s Knowatoa alternatives page lists Notion, ClickUp and Apollo.io, a sign of thin review data. User feedback is sparse: one r/DigitalMarketing thread listing brand trackers calls Knowatoa a “Great dashboard” that “focuses too much on a website”.
The practical conclusion is to treat every Knowatoa price, question count and feature list in secondary sources, including the table above, as a lead to confirm in the free trial. Knowatoa’s paid ads guide describes that trial as seven days.
The best Knowatoa alternatives in 2026
Canlah AI ranks first of six Knowatoa alternatives in this comparison for teams that need a stated question pool and managed execution, and Otterly.AI has the lowest published entry price at $29 a month. The right choice depends on which part of Knowatoa you are replacing: the crawler check, the answer tracking or the drafting. The table ranks the six by how each one sees AI crawlers and AI answers.

1. Canlah AI: Best overall alternative for locked buyer questions and managed execution
Canlah AI ranks first among the six Knowatoa alternatives in this comparison because it states the two figures Knowatoa’s public pages leave unclear: how many buyer questions are measured and how often each one is sampled. Its measurement protocol locks a pool of real buyer queries with the client, probes each engine under rotated phrasings and stores every run as a raw JSON record with the prompt, full answer, citations and timestamp. Citation frequency is reported as a range, and the archive belongs to the client, so a sceptical stakeholder can re-run it.
Canlah AI is a Singapore-based SEO + GEO agency that measures and improves brand visibility inside ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, reporting AI visibility as re-verifiable ranges with timestamped evidence. Its standard tracking covers those four engines by tier: Starter covers ChatGPT, Growth adds Google AI Overviews and Full adds Google AI Mode and Gemini; Perplexity and Chinese engines are not part of standard tracking.
The Canlah AI audit also reads robots rules for eight named AI crawlers, separating answer-time fetchers such as OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot from training crawlers such as GPTBot. Findings become on-site fixes, AI-optimised content and off-site authority work, delivered by AI agents under human strategists.
Best for
B2B SaaS, export-focused and evidence-sensitive brands that need exact buyer questions tracked and one accountable team to measure and act, including brands that sell across English and Chinese markets.
Limitations
Canlah AI is an agency, not a $59 self-serve seat, so it is less suited to a small team that wants AI-drafted articles on a monthly software bill. Its pricing page prices the GEO service per AI platform, with 4 tracked buyer intents on Starter from $1,500 a month, 8 on Growth from $3,000 a month and 16 on the customised Full tier, each re-measured monthly. For a quick firewall check, Knowatoa’s free console is faster.
Its own AI visibility is also low. In a September 7, 2026 self-audit of 39 buyer questions run three times each, Canlah AI was named in seven of 84 non-branded OpenAI answers (8.3%), in none of 93 Gemini answers and in none of 51 browser-rendered Google AI Overviews.
What to verify
Ask for a redacted evidence pack showing the prompt, phrasing rotation, engine, full answer, cited sources and timestamp. Confirm in writing which buyer intents your tier covers and how many runs sit behind each figure.
Verdict: The strongest Knowatoa alternative in this comparison when the question count must be stated and someone has to act on the result. Teams that want a cheap crawler check and AI drafts should stay with Knowatoa.
2. Otterly.AI: Best for daily prompt tracking at the lowest published price
Otterly.AI publishes Lite at $29 a month for 15 prompts, Standard at $189 for 100 prompts and Premium at $489 for 400 prompts. Every tier tracks ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot daily. Its free tools include an AI Crawler Simulation, and Agent Analytics for bot traffic starts on Standard.
Best for
Small teams that want a short, hand-picked prompt list tracked daily.
Limitations
Claude, Google AI Mode and Gemini are add-ons, and API access starts at Standard. Repeat sampling per prompt was not found on the reviewed page.
What to verify
Add the engine add-ons you need to the $29 Lite price before comparing it with Knowatoa’s $59 Starter.
Verdict: In a Knowatoa vs Otterly.AI decision, Otterly.AI publishes its prompt count and tracks daily. Knowatoa adds AI article drafting and a free 25-agent crawler console.
3. LLMrefs: Best for many engines on one low price
LLMrefs sells one All in One plan at $79 a month with 500 prompts, ten named engines, unlimited seats and unlimited projects, and lists a free AI crawl checker among its tools. You enter keywords, LLMrefs generates the prompts and results refresh at least once a week.
Best for
SEO teams and agencies that think in keywords and want ten engines on one bill.
Limitations
The tool writes the prompts, the refresh is weekly and the $79 price is marked “Limited time only”.
What to verify
Confirm the renewal price and how many prompts sit behind each keyword during the seven-day trial.
Verdict: More engines per dollar than Knowatoa Starter, ten for $79 against three for $59. Knowatoa keeps the edge on custom questions and drafting.
4. Peec AI: Best for custom prompts tracked daily
Peec AI is a Berlin-based AI search analytics platform that runs the prompts you write every day, with Starter at $95 a month for 50 prompts on three chosen models. Pro costs $245 for 150 prompts, and both plans include unlimited users.
Best for
Mid-market teams and agencies that know which questions they want tracked and need daily share of voice.
Limitations
Self-serve plans cap engines at three. A crawler check and a drafting agent were not found on the reviewed pricing page.
What to verify
Price the extra models you need before comparing Starter with Knowatoa Growth.
Verdict: Stronger than Knowatoa on published prompt counts and daily cadence, weaker on built-in drafting and crawler checks.
5. Scrunch: Best for site audits and bot traffic in one platform
Scrunch publishes a Core plan at $250 a month with 125 unique prompts, five site audits a month, five user licences and four engines: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Copilot. Core also reports AI agent and bot traffic, and Enterprise adds nine engines, API access and AXP, its Agent Experience Platform. Sitecore acquired Scrunch on June 3, 2026.
Best for
Marketing teams that want bot traffic, site audits and prompt tracking in one contract.
Limitations
Core covers one country, one language and one brand workspace, and Claude, Gemini and Google AI Mode sit on Enterprise.
What to verify
Ask how bot traffic is collected on Core and whether your markets require Enterprise.
Verdict: A step up from Knowatoa’s simulated console to measured bot traffic, at more than four times the Starter price.
6. Profound: Best for server-log crawler analytics at enterprise scale
Profound is an enterprise answer-engine platform whose Agent Analytics reads AI crawler activity through integrations such as Cloudflare, Fastly, AWS and Vercel, and whose free trial runs 50 prompts a day for seven days. The trial covers ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, and the custom Enterprise plan covers up to nine answer engines with SSO/SAML and SOC 2 compliance.
Best for
Large organisations that want real crawler logs and security review in one contract.
Limitations
History, exports and API access sit on Enterprise rather than on the trial, and Enterprise pricing is quoted case by case.
What to verify
Ask which engines your contract includes and whether Agent Analytics can read your CDN.
Verdict: The log-based counterpart to Knowatoa’s user-agent test. It shows which bots actually arrived, not only which ones could.
How to decide between Knowatoa and an alternative
Pick Knowatoa if you want a free crawler check, weekly question tracking and AI-drafted content for $59 or $199 a month. Pick the matching alternative when one of the conditions below applies.
- Choose Knowatoa if you run content for a SaaS brand and want gaps turned into drafts in the same tool.
- Choose Canlah AI if your buyer questions must stay fixed, you need raw answers you can re-run or you want a team that closes the gaps.
- Choose Otterly.AI if you need a published prompt count and daily tracking at the lowest entry price.
- Choose LLMrefs if you think in keywords and want ten engines on one bill.
- Choose Peec AI if you write your own prompts and need daily share of voice with unlimited users.
- Choose Scrunch or Profound if you need measured bot traffic rather than a simulated access test.
Whatever you pick, run Knowatoa’s free AI Search Console on your own site first, because a blocked crawler weakens every tracking tool on this list.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Knowatoa AI Search Console?
The Knowatoa AI Search Console is a free tool that requests your site as 25 AI crawler user agents, including GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot, and reports which requests succeed. It needs no account, and Knowatoa advises confirming any failure with your host.
Does a passing Knowatoa AI Search Console check mean ChatGPT can read my site?
No. A pass shows your server answered a request carrying that bot’s user agent, not that the real crawler, arriving from its own IP range, was let through. Whether ChatGPT cites your brand is a separate question, answered only by tracking real answers.
Does a Gemini pass in the Knowatoa AI Search Console cover Google AI Overviews?
No. The console’s Gemini row tests Google-Extended, which Google documents as a robots.txt control token with no separate user agent and no effect on inclusion in Google Search. Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode draw on the ordinary Search index, so check Googlebot access in Google Search Console instead.
Is Knowatoa worth it?
Knowatoa is worth it for SaaS and content teams that want a crawler check, tracking across up to seven engines and AI-drafted articles for $59 or $199 a month. It is less suited to buyers who need a published question allowance or someone to execute off-site work.
How much does Knowatoa cost?
Knowatoa lists Starter at $59 a month for three engines, Growth at $199 a month for all seven plus API and MCP access, and Enterprise on request. The question allowance was not stated on the pricing page reviewed on September 23, 2026, and older third-party reviews quote $99, $249 and $749 tiers that no longer appear.
What are the best Knowatoa alternatives?
The strongest Knowatoa alternatives in this review are Canlah AI, Otterly.AI, LLMrefs, Peec AI, Scrunch and Profound. Canlah AI locks buyer questions and hands over raw evidence, Otterly.AI and Peec AI track prompts daily, LLMrefs covers ten engines for $79 and Scrunch and Profound measure real bot traffic.
Is this Knowatoa review independent?
No. Canlah AI publishes this Knowatoa review and competes with Knowatoa, so it is a vendor editorial assessment rather than an independent award. Every Knowatoa figure comes from knowatoa.com and its docs as reviewed on September 23, 2026, so check each claim against those pages.
How is Canlah AI different from Knowatoa?
Knowatoa is self-serve software that checks crawler access, tracks questions weekly across up to seven engines and drafts content with AI agents. Canlah AI is an agency that locks a pool of real buyer queries, probes each under phrasing rotation, hands over a raw evidence archive and then does the on-site and off-site GEO work, starting from a free AI visibility report delivered within 48 hours.
