Which ChatGPT Plan Is Best for Optimizing a Website as a Source for Specific Questions?

No ChatGPT plan makes ChatGPT cite your website. Which plan to use for testing, auditing and team work, how Profound fits and when an agency is the better spend.

Dark slabs rising like steps, the top step marked in indigo

Quick answer

No ChatGPT plan is best for getting a website used as a source, because no plan makes ChatGPT cite your pages: OpenAI’s help article says web search runs on ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu, and for people who are not signed in. Whether ChatGPT uses your page depends on whether OAI-SearchBot can crawl it, whether it answers the specific question in its first lines and whether other sites say the same thing.

For the work itself, use the free plan or a logged-out session to see what buyers see; Plus at SGD 30 / month to draft and audit pages with expanded deep research; and Business from SGD 25 / month per seat, billed annually, when a team shares the work. Those are the prices OpenAI’s pricing page showed a Singapore visitor on October 25, 2026.

One account is one sample. Logged-out ChatGPT named Canlah AI in 9 of 16 answers to one Chinese buyer question on October 15, 2026, while the ChatGPT API with web search named it in 11 of 20 runs of an English question across two dates. Trackers such as Profound run prompts on a schedule across many engines; Canlah AI, a Singapore SEO + GEO agency, runs the measurement and does the page and third-party work. Treat any single answer as directional.

Disclosure: Canlah AI publishes this guide and sells the GEO service and DeepAudit described near the end. OpenAI details come from its pricing page, crawler documentation and help articles, and Profound details from its home and pricing pages, all reviewed on October 25, 2026 and not tested through paid accounts. The Canlah AI figures come from its own published records of September 28 and October 15, 2026 and a self-audit of September 7, 2026.

Does a paid ChatGPT plan make ChatGPT cite your website?

No ChatGPT plan, free or paid, changes whether ChatGPT cites your website in other people’s answers. OpenAI’s help article on web search says ChatGPT ranks results “using multiple factors intended to help users find relevant, reliable information” and that “placement is not guaranteed”. Nothing on OpenAI’s pricing page or help articles describes a plan that changes how a website ranks for other users.

Four things decide whether ChatGPT can use a page as a source:

  • Crawler access: OpenAI’s crawler page says OAI-SearchBot “is used to surface websites in search results in ChatGPT’s search features”, and sites opted out of it “will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers, though can still appear as navigational links”. OpenAI asks sites to allow its published IP ranges and says robots.txt changes take about 24 hours to reach search. GPTBot, the training crawler, is a separate setting.
  • Search partners: The help article says ChatGPT search “sometimes partners with other search providers”, rewrites a question into targeted queries for them and links Microsoft’s privacy statement among those providers’ policies. Confirming your key pages are indexed in Bing Webmaster Tools is a cheap check that follows from this.
  • First lines that answer the question: ChatGPT sends specific, rewritten queries. A page whose opening sentences answer the buyer’s exact question, with names, places, prices and dates, gives those queries something precise to match.
  • Corroboration from other sites: OpenAI asks for reliable information. Directories, reviews, media and partner pages that state the same facts as your page are how a reader, human or model, checks it.

ChatGPT plans compared for website optimization work

OpenAI’s pricing page listed five self-serve ChatGPT plans and a sales-led Enterprise plan on October 25, 2026, and every one includes web search. The differences that matter for website work are deep research limits, memory, projects and shared seats.

ChatGPT plans and their best use for website optimization work, as listed on October 25, 2026.

ChatGPT plan Price as listed to a Singapore visitor Search and deep research Projects, memory and seats Best use for website work
Free SGD 0 / month Search included; deep research listed as Limited Projects included; memory Limited; one person Seeing what a first-time buyer sees, in a clean session with web search on
Go SGD 11 / month Search included; deep research Limited Projects and scheduled tasks; longer memory; “This plan may include ads” Little extra for this job over Free beyond more messages and uploads
Plus SGD 30 / month Search included; “Expanded deep research” Projects, scheduled tasks and custom GPTs; expanded memory and context Drafting and auditing pages and researching the sources competitors are cited from
Pro From SGD 138 / month Search included; “Maximum deep research” Choice of 3 usage tiers; Dot, “your always-on agent” One researcher with very heavy daily use; rarely needed to optimize one website
Business Standard seat SGD 25 / month billed annually, SGD 32 billed monthly Search and deep research included Shared workspace for teams of 2–200; “No training on your business data by default” A content team sharing projects and connecting Google Workspace, Slack or Microsoft 365
Enterprise Custom pricing Search and deep research included SCIM, custom data retention and data residency in ten regions Large organizations with security and procurement requirements

Source: OpenAI ChatGPT pricing page, Individual and Business & Enterprise tabs, reviewed from Singapore on October 25, 2026. The page showed prices in Singapore dollars to that visitor. The Business Premium seat was listed at SGD 125 / month billed annually or SGD 160 billed monthly.

For most site owners, the free plan plus one Plus seat covers the job: Free shows the buyer’s view, and Plus adds the deep research and project space that make auditing 20 or 30 pages practical. Business pays off when three or more people write and review pages together. Pro and Enterprise solve problems of scale and governance, not of being cited.

How to test whether ChatGPT uses your website as a source

A useful test takes about an hour for five buyer questions and needs only the free plan, a spreadsheet and access to your robots.txt and server logs.

Step 1: Confirm OAI-SearchBot can reach the page

Check that robots.txt does not disallow OAI-SearchBot and that your CDN or firewall does not challenge the IP ranges OpenAI publishes at openai.com/searchbot.json. Search server logs for “OAI-SearchBot” to confirm real visits. After a robots.txt change, wait at least 24 hours before testing.

Step 2: Check that a search index holds the page

Search for the page’s exact title in Bing, or inspect the URL in Bing Webmaster Tools. A page missing from the index a search partner draws on has one route fewer into a ChatGPT answer.

Step 3: Write the questions the page should answer

Write five to ten questions a buyer types before they know your name, such as “which accountant in Tampines handles GST registration for a new company”. Canlah AI asks each buyer question five to ten real ways, because buyers phrase one need differently and ChatGPT rewrites each phrasing into different searches.

Step 4: Ask in a clean session with web search on

Use ChatGPT without signing in or, on a paid account, a temporary chat set to Unpersonalized, which OpenAI’s memory article says keeps memories, custom instructions and plugins out. Turn on Search and record the date, location and language of every run.

Step 5: Repeat each question and count

Run each question three to five times in new chats. Record whether your domain is cited, whether your brand is named and which other sites are cited. Report “cited in 2 of 5 runs”, never yes or no.

Step 6: Read the competing sources

List every domain ChatGPT cites instead of you. Those pages are what ChatGPT already treats as reliable for the question, and they become your list for corrections, listings and coverage.

Step 7: Change the page, then re-run the same questions

Rewrite the opening so the first two sentences answer the question, publish it and re-run the identical question set on a fixed date. A changed question set is a new baseline, not a trend.

What one ChatGPT account cannot prove about your website

One ChatGPT account produces one sample of an answer that changes by run, language, location and account memory, so it cannot tell you how often buyers see your website. OpenAI’s help article says ChatGPT may estimate location from an IP address and, with memory on, “may use relevant saved memories when rewriting a search query”.

Canlah AI’s published records show the spread. On October 15, 2026, ChatGPT used without signing in named Canlah AI in 9 of 16 answers to one Chinese-language buyer question about which Singapore companies can get a brand recommended by AI search, as recorded on the Canlah AI cases page. Through the ChatGPT API with web search, “Which company in Singapore can get my brand recommended by ChatGPT?” named Canlah AI in 11 of 20 runs and first in 5, as shown on the Canlah AI product page: 7 of 10 on September 28, 2026 and 4 of 10 on October 15, 2026.

A single check on either date would have told a different story. API results can also differ from what buyers see in the consumer app, so never mix the two in one trend line.

  • One account cannot prove a stable rate across the questions buyers ask.
  • One run cannot show that a page change caused an answer to change.
  • A ChatGPT result says nothing about Gemini or Google AI Overviews, which retrieve from different sources.

How Profound fits next to a ChatGPT plan

Profound is an AI marketing platform that runs structured prompts on a schedule across several AI engines, which a single ChatGPT seat cannot do. Its pricing page says Profound “runs structured prompts across AI platforms, analyzing where and how your brand appears in responses, tracking citations, sentiment, ranking, and competitive presence.”

Its strengths are breadth and data. The Enterprise plan lists capability for up to nine answer engines: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, DeepSeek, Anthropic Claude, Google AI Overviews and Exa Search. Prompt Volumes is described as a way to “analyze billions of real user conversations”, and Agent Analytics to “understand how bots view, cite, and refer to your pages”. The home page says its AI Marketer “rewrites pages with citation decay and stages them in your CMS”.

Profound’s public pricing has two brand plans. The Trial is free and runs 50 prompts daily for 7 days on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, in 1 language and 1 region, with a recommended prompt set Trial users cannot customize and no exports or API. Enterprise is custom-priced and adds tailored prompts, CSV and JSON exports and an API. A published paid entry price for brands was not found on the public page reviewed on October 25, 2026.

What Profound adds over a ChatGPT seat is repetition at scale: the same prompts every day, on several engines, with history and competitor context you cannot collect by hand. It remains software your team operates; the home page says the AI Marketer “identifies the work worth doing, drafts it, and pings you for approval”, so someone on your side still approves and publishes each change.

When an agency is the better spend for getting a website cited by ChatGPT

An agency is the better spend for getting a website cited by ChatGPT when nobody on your team has the hours to turn findings into page changes and outside coverage every month. A seat and a tracker give you a test bench, data and drafts; someone still has to publish and earn the outside sources that corroborate the page.

Canlah AI is a Singapore-based SEO + GEO agency that measures and improves brand visibility inside ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, reporting AI visibility as re-verifiable ranges with timestamped evidence. Standard tracking follows the tier: Starter covers ChatGPT, Growth adds Google AI Overviews and Full adds Google AI Mode and Gemini. Perplexity and Chinese engines are not part of standard tracking. Reports are delivered in English and Chinese, and clients Canlah AI has served include Baidu AI Cloud, Google Cross-Border Accelerator, ByteDance International Strategy and a Singapore-listed group.

Canlah AI’s offer runs in three steps, priced in full on the Canlah AI pricing page:

  • Free AI visibility report within 48 hours: The low-cost first step, showing where your brand stands in AI answers before any spend.
  • DeepAudit: $99 for One read or $189 for Month read, covering 30 questions × 2 engines × 3 runs, about 180 answers. The fee is creditable toward the agency service, not toward Canlah All-Stars.
  • GEO service, priced per AI platform: Starter from $1,500 a month covers ChatGPT with 4 buyer questions; Growth from $3,000 a month adds Google AI Overviews with 8; Full is customized and adds Google AI Mode and Gemini with 16. Details are on the Canlah AI GEO service page.

Each buyer question is asked five to ten real ways and re-tested monthly against the starting baseline, and the questions stay locked for the measurement period with a quarterly review. The written bar is: “AI names you at least 30% more often than at your starting baseline, re-tested every month on the same buyer questions.” Canlah AI does not guarantee rankings or a #1 position. After three months of the GEO service, clients can run the work themselves with Canlah All-Stars, from $199 a month.

The limitations are real. Canlah AI was founded in 2026 and has no published Singapore case with a before/after number in a regulated sector. Its own visibility on open questions is still modest: in its September 7, 2026 self-audit, Canlah AI was named in 7 of 84 non-branded OpenAI answers (8.3%) and in 0 of 93 Gemini answers.

Whichever route you choose, ask for the questions, engine, date, raw answers and cited URLs behind any number, and re-run two of those questions yourself in a logged-out session before you pay for more.

Frequently asked questions

Does ChatGPT Plus rank my site higher?

No. ChatGPT Plus raises the limits of the person who pays for it, such as deep research and memory, and OpenAI’s help article says web search placement “is not guaranteed” on any plan. Whether ChatGPT cites your site depends on crawler access, a search index that holds the page, an opening that answers the question and other sites that corroborate it.

Is the free ChatGPT plan enough to check whether ChatGPT uses my website?

Yes, for a spot check. OpenAI’s help article says web search is available on ChatGPT Free and to people who are not signed in, which is also closest to what a first-time buyer sees. Repeat each question three to five times, because one answer is one sample.

Does ChatGPT use Bing?

OpenAI’s help article does not name a single search engine. It says ChatGPT search “sometimes partners with other search providers”, sends them rewritten queries and links Microsoft’s and Shopify’s privacy policies for how those providers process queries. ChatGPT also crawls with its own OAI-SearchBot, so check both your Bing indexing and your robots.txt.

How long until ChatGPT picks up changes to my website?

OpenAI’s crawler page says robots.txt changes can take about 24 hours to reach ChatGPT search results, and content changes take longer to show in answers. In Canlah AI’s client projects, new AI citations typically begin to appear about 15 days after the first batch of changes goes live.

How does Profound measure AI visibility?

Profound’s pricing page says it runs structured prompts across AI platforms and tracks citations, sentiment, ranking and competitive presence in the responses. The free Trial runs 50 prompts daily for 7 days on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, and the custom-priced Enterprise plan lists capability for up to nine answer engines.

Method and sources

OpenAI and Profound details were checked on their public pages from Singapore on October 25, 2026 and were not tested through paid accounts; OpenAI showed ChatGPT prices in Singapore dollars to that visitor. The Canlah AI figures are single-question samples from the dates stated, not a stable visibility rate or proof of causation.
