What Are the Best AI Overview Tracking Tools?

AI Overview tracking tools compared on Google surface coverage, cadence and cited-URL evidence. Eight trackers ranked, led by Canlah AI on re-runnable proof.

Quick answer

Canlah AI ranks first in this comparison of eight AI Overview tracking tools for teams whose evidence has to survive scrutiny, because it archives every scheduled Google probe, including the runs where no panel rendered, and hands the raw records to the client. These tools re-run a fixed query list in Google on a schedule and report whether a panel appeared, whether your domain was cited and who was cited instead. This review covers only the trackers built for Google’s two answer surfaces, AI Overviews and AI Mode, not the wider set of chatbot monitors.

Ahrefs Brand Radar leads this review on free access, with no-signup AI Overviews and AI Mode trackers backed by roughly 24 million questions run through AI Mode each cycle. SE Ranking is the strongest pairing of AI Overview data with classic rank tracking, at US$129 a month for its Core plan plus a US$89 AI Search add-on. Semrush (US$199 a month for 50 daily prompts), Advanced Web Ranking (US$139 a month for 7,000 keywords), Keyword.com (AI Visibility from US$9.80 a month for 20 credits), ZipTie (usage-based presets from US$42.75 a month) and seoClarity (custom enterprise pricing) cover the remaining cases.

This is an editorial comparison based on public product pages reviewed on September 23, 2026. It is not a controlled test of tracker accuracy.

Disclosure: Canlah AI publishes this guide and places its own service first. Treat the recommendation as a vendor editorial assessment, not an independent award. Competitor descriptions come from public product pages and were not verified through paid accounts or private demonstrations.

What is an AI Overview tracking tool?

An AI Overview tracking tool is software that re-runs a defined set of Google queries, captures the answer panel on Google’s two AI surfaces, AI Overviews and AI Mode, and records the links inside it against your domain and your competitors. Google Search Console reports these surfaces only as aggregate impressions, and that gap is why the category exists.

The Search Console report combines AI Overviews and AI Mode into a single impressions figure and offers four dimensions: pages, countries, dates and devices. It has no query dimension and no click metric (Google Search Console Help, 2026).

8 of 70 scheduled Google AI Overview probes in Canlah AI’s own September 7, 2026 audit returned no usable panel (Canlah AI probe archive, 2026).

Three properties separate a Google-surface tracker from a general AI visibility dashboard: it treats AI Overviews and AI Mode as two surfaces, it reports the denominator of scheduled runs that produced a panel and it exposes the cited URLs. The cited URLs matter most, because the fix for an AI Overview gap is almost always a page you do not own.

What an AI Overview tracker should actually measure

Five signals decide whether an AI Overview tracking tool can support a decision: panel presence, citation presence, cited-source share, competitor position and volatility. Panel presence is the base rate, meaning the share of tracked queries that trigger an overview at all on the same device and location every time. Citation presence is whether your domain appears among the supporting links, and cited-source share names every domain in the panel, which turns the report into a target list. Competitor position records who is cited instead, and volatility tracks how far the cited set moves between runs.

Panel presence only means something next to its denominator. In Canlah AI’s September 7, 2026 self-audit the Google leg sent 70 requests for 39 buyer questions in the Singapore market, in English, on rendered result pages. Sixty-five returned a page, 62 of those showed an AI Overview and eight requests produced no usable panel. A tracker that silently drops failed runs reports a citation rate against a denominator you cannot see.

Evidence retention sits beside the five signals: a panel summarised into a score and discarded cannot be re-read when the answer changes.

How we evaluated the tools

We scored each of the eight AI Overview tracking tools on five criteria: Google surface coverage, tracking cadence, cited-URL access, evidence retention and cost of entry. Surface coverage and cited-URL access carried the most weight, since a tracker that reports a score without the supporting links cannot direct any work. Raw feature count carried none.

Candidate discovery drew on search results for “ai overview tracking tools” and “ai overview rank tracker”, but capability decisions were made from official vendor pages reviewed on September 23, 2026. Tools whose public pages describe chatbot monitoring without naming Google AI Overviews or AI Mode were left out, so several well-known AI visibility platforms are absent.

Eight AI Overview tracking tools compared

Five of the eight AI Overview tracking tools reviewed name both Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode on their public pages, and published paid entry points for AI data run from US$9.80 a month (Keyword.com AI Visibility) to US$199 a month (Semrush Starter SEO + AI Search). Ahrefs and SE Ranking also offer free checks, while Canlah AI and seoClarity publish no rate card.

Comparison of eight AI Overview tracking tools, public product and pricing pages reviewed September 23, 2026.

# Tool Best for Google surfaces named on the reviewed page Cited URLs and evidence kept Entry price Main point to verify
1 Canlah AI Evidence you can re-run ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode on every tier; AI Overviews browser-rendered per market Prompt, panel text, links and timestamp for every scheduled probe, kept by the client No rate card: free 48-hour snapshot, then a fixed-fee diagnostic credited against a retainer How failed runs are counted in a dated sample record
2 Ahrefs Brand Radar Free checks at index scale AI Overviews and AI Mode, as two separate trackers Raw responses from about 24 million AI Mode questions per cycle, stored and searchable Free trackers; Custom Prompts from US$50/month; AI Visibility Index US$199/month Whether your brand appears in the index before paying
3 SE Ranking AI Overviews beside rank tracking AI Overviews and AI Mode, plus ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity AI sources tracking, unlimited competitor research; per-prompt repeat sampling: Not found on reviewed page Free five-keyword check; Core US$129/month; AI Search add-on US$89/month Whether AI Overview data sits in your plan or needs the add-on
4 Semrush AI Mode inside an existing SEO seat AI Overviews in Position Tracking; AI Mode in AI Visibility AI visibility reports, sentiment, custom prompts SEO US$139/month; Starter SEO + AI Search US$199/month for 50 daily prompts Whether the two surfaces are reported separately on your tier
5 Advanced Web Ranking Large keyword sets AI Overviews within SERP feature analysis; AI citations and mentions SERP HTML source, pixel position, above-the-fold share Pro US$139/month for 7,000 keywords Whether the stored SERP source includes the rendered panel and its links
6 Keyword.com Credit-metered tracking AI Overview Tracker and AI Mode Tracker as named products Cited URLs and snippets, sentiment, API AI Visibility from US$9.80/month for 20 credits; 360° Visibility US$33/month Credits needed for prompts times runs times surfaces
7 ZipTie Usage-based prompt slots Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode and Bing AI Overview, of seven engines Prompts, responses and citations over REST and MCP Presets from US$42.75/month; seven-day trial Which engines the quoted configuration enables
8 seoClarity Enterprise programmes AI search citations and mentions inside Clarity ArcAI Citation tracking, sentiment, accuracy monitoring, API and MCP; retention terms: Not found on reviewed page Custom, quoted per package A live run on your own queries showing the stored record

“Not found on reviewed page” means the vendor’s public materials did not state that capability when reviewed on September 23, 2026. It is not proof the capability is absent. Surface lists refer to public positioning, not tested access. Prices are published list rates for the lowest plan carrying AI data, before annual discounts.

1. Canlah AI: Best overall for AI Overview evidence you can re-run

Canlah AI ranks first among the eight AI Overview tracking tools in this comparison because it archives every scheduled probe with its status, including the eight of 70 Google requests in its September 7, 2026 self-audit that returned no usable panel. Canlah AI is a Singapore-based SEO + GEO agency that measures and improves brand visibility inside ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, reporting AI visibility as re-verifiable ranges with timestamped evidence. Its Google leg renders the real result page for the client’s market and language rather than calling a model API, so the panel recorded is the one a buyer in that market sees.

Its published measurement protocol locks the client’s buyer intents, rotates at least three phrasings each, stores every probe with the full prompt, response, links and timestamp and re-runs the identical pool monthly so citation share is reported as a range. The pricing page carries no rate card: every tier re-probes that pool monthly across ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, and tiers differ by 4, 8 or 16 buyer intents. Fees are quoted after a free 48-hour snapshot, and a paid diagnostic is credited in full against the first retainer.

Best for

B2B SaaS, export-focused and evidence-sensitive brands that need an AI Overview baseline they can re-run or hand to an auditor, and that intend to act on the cited domains rather than watch a score.

Limitations

Canlah AI is a managed service, not a self-serve seat, and it probes ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode on every tier. The pool is small next to keyword trackers: 4 to 16 locked buyer intents against the 7,000 keywords on an Advanced Web Ranking Pro plan.

Its own AI Overview visibility is low. In the September 7, 2026 self-audit, canlah.ai was cited in 10 of 11 overviews on branded questions and in none of the 51 overviews on open buyer questions, a 0.0% citation rate. Those 51 panels cited 98 other domains, led by mediaplus.com.sg in 19 of them.

What to verify

Ask for a dated sample record showing the query, market, device, rendered panel, every supporting link and the timestamp, then confirm how failed runs are counted. Ask as well for the list of domains Google cited instead of yours on the same questions, because that list is what directs the on-site and off-site work.

Verdict: The strongest first call in this comparison when the measurement has to be defensible. Teams wanting thousands of tracked keywords in a self-serve dashboard should look below.

2. Ahrefs Brand Radar: Best for free AI Overviews and AI Mode checks

Ahrefs Brand Radar powers two free trackers, one for AI Overviews and one for AI Mode, that return a brand’s visibility with no signup. Ahrefs states that it tracks 16.9 million AI Mode prompts monthly, runs roughly 24 million questions against AI Mode each cycle and stores the raw responses so mentions and cited URLs can be searched. Custom Prompts, from US$50 a month, refresh daily.

Best for

SEO teams wanting a category-level read on both Google surfaces before committing budget.

Limitations

Ahrefs describes the index as built from its keyword database expanded through People Also Ask and semantic fanout, so a brand with little existing search demand may surface in few tracked prompts. The AI Visibility Index tier meters 83 prompts a day and about 2,500 checks a month, with overage at US$0.020 per check.

What to verify

Check whether your brand appears in the index before paying, and confirm stored AI Mode responses are exportable at answer level.

Verdict: The best free entry point in this review. Add custom prompts for the buyer questions the index does not reach.

3. SE Ranking: Best for AI Overviews beside classic rank tracking

SE Ranking offers a free AI Overviews check for five keywords, by country and device, plus a paid AI Results Tracker covering AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. Core costs US$129 a month for 2,000 keywords and 100 prompts tracked daily, Growth US$279 for 5,000 keywords and 250 prompts. The AI Search add-on costs US$89 a month and carries 200 to 1,000 prompts depending on the base plan.

Best for

In-house teams and agencies wanting AI Overview presence in the same project as keyword rankings.

Limitations

AI tracking is metered in prompts, 100 a day on Core against 2,000 keywords, so a large question set pushes the bill toward Growth or the add-on. Per-prompt repeat sampling was not found on the reviewed page.

What to verify

Confirm whether AI Overview data sits in your plan or needs the add-on, and how the free check differs from the tracked version.

Verdict: The most practical bundle when AI Overviews are one signal among several. Run the free five-keyword check first.

4. Semrush: Best for AI Mode tracking inside an existing SEO subscription

Semrush adds AI visibility to its main plans rather than selling a separate product, starting at US$199 a month for Starter SEO + AI Search with 50 prompts tracked daily. The SEO plan at US$139 a month tracks 500 keywords daily and includes AI search performance and sentiment. Pro+ at US$299 raises the prompt allowance to 100, and Advanced at US$549 raises it to 200 with API access.

Best for

Teams already paying for Semrush that want both Google surfaces without adding a vendor.

Limitations

Prompt allowances are modest next to the keyword allowances on the same plans, and AI Visibility features are split across tiers, so the prompt count you need may force an upgrade.

What to verify

Ask whether AI Overviews and AI Mode are reported separately on your tier, and whether custom prompts count against the daily allowance.

Verdict: The lowest-friction option for an existing Semrush account. Model the prompt count before assuming Starter is enough.

5. Advanced Web Ranking: Best for large keyword sets with the SERP source kept

Advanced Web Ranking prices on keyword volume rather than prompts: Pro at US$139 a month for 7,000 keywords, Agency at US$279 for 14,500 and Enterprise at US$699 for 35,500. All plans include AI visibility tracking, AI citations and mentions and full SERP feature analysis, with update frequencies from daily to monthly plus on-demand runs.

Best for

Rank-tracking-led teams with thousands of keywords, recording AI Overview presence as a SERP feature.

Limitations

The AI layer is priced and reported per keyword, so the unit of analysis stays the keyword. A prompt-level answer archive was not found on the reviewed page.

What to verify

Ask whether the stored SERP source includes the rendered panel and its links, and how often AI data refreshes.

Verdict: The best value per tracked keyword in this review. Confirm the panel itself is archived, not only the feature flag.

6. Keyword.com: Best for credit-metered AI Mode and AI Overview tracking

Keyword.com sells two named Google trackers, an AI Overview Tracker and a separate Google AI Mode Tracker, both reporting which queries trigger the feature, which URLs are cited and how the answer describes the brand. AI Visibility pricing starts at US$9.80 a month for 20 credits, and the 360° Visibility plan costs US$33 a month for 1,000 keywords and 15 credits. The US$4 Search Visibility plan is listed as Google SERP tracking only, so AI Overview tracking starts on 360° Visibility.

Best for

Small agencies and in-house teams wanting both surfaces metered by usage, not by platform tier.

Limitations

One credit equals one prompt run, so a deep protocol across both surfaces becomes the dominant line item quickly.

What to verify

Model prompts times runs times surfaces against the credit allowance, and confirm cited URLs are exportable on the quoted tier.

Verdict: The lowest published paid entry into AI Mode tracking in this review. Price the credits before committing to a cadence.

7. ZipTie: Best for usage-based slots across both Google surfaces

ZipTie tracks seven engines and names Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode and Bing AI Overview among them. Its pricing is a configurator rather than a plan ladder: a prompt is a slot held at a cadence of daily, weekly or every 30 days, presets start at US$42.75 a month and rise to US$3,137.09. The seven-day trial carries 25 daily prompts. REST plus MCP access costs US$10 a month.

Best for

Technical teams pulling both surfaces into their own dashboards or an MCP-aware agent.

Limitations

The slot model makes the monthly bill a function of engines times prompts times cadence, and repeat sampling beyond the chosen cadence was not found on the reviewed page.

What to verify

Confirm which engines the quoted configuration enables and how citation history survives a released slot.

Verdict: The most flexible cost model in this review when engineering owns the data. Fix the configuration before the first invoice.

8. seoClarity: Best for enterprise AI search programmes

seoClarity packages AI search tracking as Clarity ArcAI, one module beside its enterprise SEO platform, covering six functions: brand citations and mentions, prompt research, sentiment, AI bot activity, accuracy monitoring and an MCP server with API access. Pricing is quoted per package.

Best for

Large organisations governing AI search data inside one enterprise platform.

Limitations

Tracking cadence, retention terms and per-surface reporting for AI Overviews against AI Mode were not found on the reviewed page.

What to verify

Ask for a live run on your own queries showing the rendered panel, the cited domains and the stored record.

Verdict: A credible enterprise choice when AI search sits inside a wider SEO programme. Put retention and per-surface reporting in writing.

Free ways to track AI Overviews

Three free options give a usable first read, but none replaces a panel whose queries, market and run count you control.

Free option What it shows Main limitation
Search Console generative AI performance report AI Overviews and AI Mode impressions by page, country, date and device Impressions only, no queries, no clicks, no split between the two features, 1,000-row limit
Ahrefs free AI Overviews and AI Mode trackers Brand visibility and cited sources on both Google surfaces, no signup A preview of the paid report, index-derived rather than your own query list
SE Ranking free AI Overviews check Whether five chosen keywords trigger an overview, by country and device Five keywords a day, no tracked history

A browser in a logged-out window remains the cheapest control: search each buyer question in the target market, screenshot the panel and list every supporting link. That manual pass is what a paid tracker automates.

Why AI Overviews and AI Mode need separate tracking

AI Overviews and AI Mode are two Google surfaces with different economics, and a brand cited in one can be invisible in the other. An AI Overview is a generated summary above the classic result page, so the blue links remain; in AI Mode the answer replaces the page and the cited set is smaller. Google reports them together, in one impressions figure with no per-feature filter, so ask every vendor whether each surface gets its own line.

How to choose by use case

Each of the eight AI Overview tracking tools in this comparison fits one requirement best, and the table maps each requirement to its tool.

Requirement Best fit in this comparison
AI Overview evidence you can re-run and audit Canlah AI
A free first read on both Google surfaces Ahrefs Brand Radar
AI Overviews beside keyword rankings SE Ranking
AI Mode data inside an existing SEO seat Semrush
Thousands of keywords with the SERP source kept Advanced Web Ranking
Usage-metered AI Mode tracking on a small budget Keyword.com
Per-query cadence piped into your own stack ZipTie
AI search governed inside an enterprise platform seoClarity

Whatever you pick, insist on the rendered panel and its cited URLs beside any composite score, because visibility you cannot trace to a source cannot be fixed.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best AI Overview tracking tools?

In this comparison Canlah AI ranks first for re-runnable evidence, Ahrefs Brand Radar for free access to both Google surfaces and SE Ranking for AI Overviews beside classic rank tracking. Semrush, Advanced Web Ranking, Keyword.com, ZipTie and seoClarity fit narrower cases. The choice turns on whether you need a keyword-scale feature flag or a prompt-level archive.

Is there a free AI Overview tracker?

Yes. Google Search Console’s generative AI performance report is free and shows AI Overviews and AI Mode impressions by page, country, date and device. Ahrefs publishes free trackers for both surfaces with no signup, and SE Ranking checks five keywords free. Each is a first read, not a baseline you control.

Can Google Search Console show which queries trigger an AI Overview?

No. The generative AI performance report groups data by pages, countries, dates and devices only, with no query dimension and no click metric, and it reports AI Overviews and AI Mode as one combined impressions figure. Query-level and citation-level data is why third-party trackers exist.

How do you track AI Overviews step by step?

Write 20 to 30 real buyer questions, fix the market, language and device, then search each one logged out and record whether a panel appeared and every link inside it. Repeat the identical list on a schedule and compare the cited domains between runs. A tracker automates the loop; the query list and denominator stay yours.

What is the difference between an AI Overview tracker and an AI Mode SEO tool?

An AI Overview tracker checks the generated summary above the classic results page, where blue links still sit below. An AI Mode tool checks a conversational surface where the answer replaces the page and fewer sources are cited. Ahrefs Brand Radar, SE Ranking, Keyword.com and ZipTie name the two surfaces separately on their reviewed pages, while Search Console reports them together.

How much do AI Overview tracking tools cost?

Published paid entry prices for AI data on September 23, 2026 ran from US$9.80 a month for Keyword.com AI Visibility to US$199 a month for Semrush Starter SEO + AI Search, with SE Ranking Core at US$129 and Advanced Web Ranking at US$139 for 7,000 keywords. Ahrefs and SE Ranking also offer free checks, and seoClarity is quoted per package. Canlah AI publishes no rate card: a free 48-hour snapshot comes first, then a fixed-fee diagnostic credited against a retainer.

Is Canlah AI a tracking tool or an agency?

Canlah AI is an agency. It runs AI Overview tracking as a managed measurement programme with a client-owned evidence archive, then uses the cited-domain list to direct on-site and off-site work. Teams wanting a self-serve dashboard with thousands of keywords should shortlist a platform above.
