Yext AI Visibility Review & Best Alternatives for 2026

Yext AI visibility review: what Scout measures, the AI citations research, pricing and limits, plus Birdeye, Uberall, SOCi and BrightLocal alternatives.

Two dark cards side by side, the front one edged with indigo light

A review of Yext AI visibility for multi-location brands: what Scout measures, what the Yext AI citations research actually proves, what the platform costs and where it stops. Then the alternatives worth shortlisting when your buying questions are not location questions.

Quick answer

Canlah AI ranks first among the Yext AI visibility alternatives in this review, for brands whose buyers ask category and comparison questions rather than “near me” questions and that need re-verifiable evidence plus managed off-site work. Yext AI visibility itself is delivered through Scout, an AI search visibility and competitive intelligence agent that tracks how each location appears across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity alongside Google Search, Google Maps and Google AI Overviews, and benchmarks every location against up to 20 nearby competitors. Birdeye Search AI fits brands that want location-level fixes deployed by agents, Uberall GEO Studio suits European multi-location estates, SOCi targets franchise networks, BrightLocal has the lowest published entry point at $29 per month for one location and the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit covers brand-level prompts for a published $99 per domain.

This is an editorial review based on public product, pricing and research pages reviewed on September 23, 2026. It is not a controlled test of platform accuracy, and no paid account was used.

Disclosure: Canlah AI publishes this review and places its own service first among the alternatives. Canlah AI competes with part of what Yext sells, so treat this as a vendor editorial assessment, not an independent award. Competitor descriptions come from public product pages and were not verified through paid accounts.

What is Yext AI visibility?

Yext AI visibility is the measurement layer Yext sells as Scout, launched on March 3, 2025 and built on the company’s acquisition of Places Scout. Yext, Inc. trades on the NYSE as YEXT and positions itself as a brand visibility platform for multi-location brands. Scout is the analytics and recommendation agent that sits on top of the older Yext stack of Listings, Knowledge Graph, Reviews, Social, Pages and Search.

The Scout product page, reviewed on September 23, 2026, describes 10 billion signals, five AI models, 12 million or more locations, 150 visibility metrics and up to 20 competitors per scan. Its stated method is to replicate searches at the hyper-local level, prompt AI engines with branded and unbranded queries, capture citations, sentiment and recurring themes, and test whether engines ingest structured data such as schema, listings and local pages. Yext states that Scout runs continuous scans rather than a fixed daily cadence.

The second half of the product is execution. Scout recommendations feed Yext agents that update listings, correct business information, respond to reviews and publish social content, working from the Yext Knowledge Graph and distributing to more than 200 publishers, review sites and social platforms.

What Yext does well

Yext is strongest when a brand has many physical locations and the buying question is a local one. Four strengths stand out on its public pages.

  • Location-level measurement, not brand-level averages. Scout measures win rate location by location and compares each location with up to 20 nearby competitors, which is a different unit of analysis from the single brand score most AI visibility tools report.
  • Citation tracking tied to sources it can change. Scout reports citation counts, source domains and model-by-model performance, and the Yext platform manages many of those sources directly.
  • Agentic execution inside one contract. Recommendations can be actioned by Yext agents across listings, reviews, local pages and social, so measurement and remediation sit in the same system.
  • Programmatic access. Scout data is available through the Yext MCP and the Yext API, so ChatGPT or Claude can query local competitive benchmarks and trigger actions such as listing updates.

Scout also ships a mobile application that surfaces win rate by location and prioritised fixes, which matters for brands where regional managers, not head office, do the work.

What the Yext AI citations research says

The Yext AI citations study is the most quoted piece of evidence in local AI search, and its headline number is 86%. Yext analysed 6.8 million AI citations drawn from 1.6 million queries per model across ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity between July 1 and August 31, 2025, and found that 86% of citations came from sources brands already control or manage.

Yext AI citations study, source mix and model preferences, press release reviewed September 23, 2026.

Citation source Share of 6.8M citations Model note What a brand controls
First-party websites 44% (3.0M) Gemini favours websites at 52.1% Full control: local pages, schema, content
Listings and directories 42% (2.9M) OpenAI leans on listings at 48.7% Managed control: publisher data feeds
Reviews and social 8% (545K) Food service highest at 13.3% Influence: volume, response, sentiment
Forums such as Reddit 2% (136K) Lower than category commentary assumes Little direct control

Source: Yext press release of October 9, 2025 and the Yext Research Q4 2025 refresh, reviewed September 23, 2026. The refresh reports 17.2 million citations across Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and SearchGPT, with 90.6% of citations in categories Yext classes as controllable. Industry splits in the first study cover retail, financial services, healthcare and food service, with healthcare listings at 52.6% of citations.

Two caveats belong next to those numbers. The study was built from location-intent queries in four consumer industries, so it does not describe how a B2B software buyer or an exporter is cited. And the finding that 86% of citations come from brand-managed sources is published by a vendor that sells the management of those sources, which is a reason to re-run the test on your own category rather than to dismiss it.

Where Yext fits less well

Yext is a location platform first, which suits chains and franchises but sets boundaries for other buyers. Three limits matter most, and each is a scope question rather than a quality judgement.

  • The unit of analysis is the location. Scout measures high-intent local searches against nearby competitors. Brands whose buyers ask “best payroll software for a Singapore SME” rather than “dentist near me” are outside the shape the product was designed around.
  • Pricing is custom, annual and location-based. The Yext pricing FAQ, reviewed on September 23, 2026, states that price is a per-location or per-provider unit rate multiplied by footprint, that billing is annual and that multi-year proposals are the default. A list price, a free tier and a standard free trial were not found on the reviewed pricing pages, and smaller businesses are directed to reseller partners.
  • Chinese engines were not found on the reviewed pages. Scout names ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity plus Google surfaces. DeepSeek, Qwen and Doubao were not found on the reviewed pages, and Google AI Mode was not named in the Scout engine FAQ although Google AI Overviews was.

A fourth point is worth noting for evidence-sensitive buyers. Public Yext materials describe standardised visibility metrics and recommended actions, but the number of runs behind each location-level figure, and whether raw answers are exportable per prompt, were not found on the reviewed pages. Ask for both in a demonstration.

Yext pricing and plans

Yext pricing is custom and scales with location count, so no sticker price was found to compare against the published self-serve tiers in this review, such as $29 a month for BrightLocal’s entry plan or $99 a month per domain for the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit. Yext states that it prices by solution: a bundle built around a goal rather than a line item per product, with Scout available standalone or inside a packaged solution. Volume earns a better per-unit rate, and a one-year term carries a modest uplift over the multi-year rate. Cancelling does not delete listings.

For a sense of scale, third-party sources fill the gap the vendor leaves. G2 estimates Yext deals in the thousands of dollars per year based on nine purchases and records an average discount of 12%, and Merchynt’s comparison page puts Birdeye at $299 or more per month per location for standard plans. Treat both as secondary estimates, not quotes.

The best Yext alternatives in 2026

The right Yext alternative depends on why you are leaving: a different unit of measurement, a lower entry price, different engines, or someone to do editorial work that no listings feed can do. The table ranks six alternatives on those axes.

Comparison of Yext and six alternatives, public product pages reviewed September 23, 2026.

# Tool Best for AI engines named on reviewed page Entry price Execution model Main point to verify
1 Canlah AI Category and comparison queries with re-runnable evidence ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode on every tier Free 48-hour snapshot, then scoped retainer Managed agency, on-site and off-site Ask for a redacted evidence pack with prompt, engine, answer and timestamp
2 Birdeye Search AI Location-level diagnosis and agent fixes ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Grok Custom; $299 per location per month per a third-party estimate Software with orchestrated agents How many prompts per location sit behind one visibility score
3 Uberall GEO Studio European and global listings estates Not found on reviewed page; monitoring built with AthenaHQ Custom Software with generative content engine Which engines AthenaHQ samples for your markets and languages
4 SOCi Franchise networks with local social Google and ChatGPT named on the Genius Search page Custom Agent-managed local search The denominator behind the 1.2% recommendation figure
5 BrightLocal Agencies and small location counts ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews $29 per month billed annually for one location, per a third-party roundup Software with AI Insights Whether markets outside the United States and United Kingdom are covered
6 Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit Brand-level prompts without locations ChatGPT, Google AI Mode $99 per domain per month Software Whether your real buyer questions fit 25 prompt slots
— Yext (reviewed) Multi-location brands measuring by location ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Google Search, Maps, AI Overviews Custom, annual, per location Software with Knowledge Graph agents Runs behind each location score, and whether raw answers export per prompt

“Not found on reviewed page” means the vendor’s public materials did not name that capability when reviewed on September 23, 2026. It is not proof that the capability is absent. Engine lists describe public positioning, not independently tested access. No vendor in this comparison named Doubao on its reviewed pages.

1. Canlah AI: Best overall alternative for re-verifiable evidence

Canlah AI is a Singapore-based SEO + GEO agency that measures and improves brand visibility inside ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, reporting AI visibility as re-verifiable ranges with timestamped evidence. That engine set is the same on every tier.

Canlah AI ranks first in this comparison for a different job than Scout does. Scout answers “which of my 400 locations is losing to the shop across the road”. Canlah AI answers “does any engine name us when a buyer asks who is best in this category, and can we prove the number moved”. Its measurement protocol locks a pool of buyer queries for the contract period, runs each under repeated phrasing rotations per engine, stores every probe as a raw JSON record with prompt, full answer, citations and timestamp, and reports citation frequency as a range rather than a single score. The archive belongs to the client, so a sceptical stakeholder or a rival agency can re-run it.

The second difference is the kind of work that follows. Listings platforms fix data brands already own. Canlah AI also pursues the sources they do not own: on-site restructuring for machine readability, AI-optimised content and earned off-site placements under disclosed identities, delivered by a team of AI agents under human strategists. Published tiers run from 4 buyer intents on Foundation to 8 on Authority and 16 on Dominance, each re-measured monthly on ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode.

Best for

B2B SaaS, export-focused and evidence-sensitive brands, including single-site or few-site companies whose buyers compare categories rather than neighbourhoods, and brands selling across English and Chinese markets.

Limitations

Canlah AI is not a listings platform. It does not syndicate name, address and phone data to more than 200 publishers, does not manage review response at scale and does not provide a per-location dashboard for a 400-store estate. A large chain that needs both should expect to keep a listings vendor and add Canlah AI for the category-level and off-site layer, not to replace one with the other.

Its own AI visibility is also modest. In a September 7, 2026 self-audit of 39 buyer questions run three times each, Canlah AI was named in seven of 84 non-branded OpenAI answers (8.3%), in none of 93 Gemini answers and in none of 51 browser-rendered Google AI Overviews.

What to verify

Ask for a redacted sample evidence pack showing the prompt, phrasing rotation, engine, full answer, cited sources and timestamp. Confirm in writing which buyer intents your tier includes. Chinese engines are not part of Canlah AI’s standard tracking, so settle any need for them before signing.

Verdict: The strongest Yext alternative in this comparison when the question is category visibility rather than location visibility, and when the number has to survive an auditor. Brands whose revenue depends on “near me” queries across hundreds of stores should shortlist a location platform below.

2. Birdeye Search AI: Best for location-level diagnosis and agent fixes

Birdeye positions Search AI as a location-level AI visibility product inside its wider platform, tracking visibility score and share of voice across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode and Grok. Its own study of 1,762 multi-location brands across 16,240 location-level scans reports that one in five locations is absent from AI search, with gaps of up to 50 points between a brand’s best and worst location.

Best for

Multi-location brands that want a diagnosis traced to a specific listing field or content gap, then fixed by an agent.

Limitations

A price was not found on the reviewed product page. The headline outcome figures of 30% visibility increase and 53% lead growth are vendor-reported, and a sample size and measurement window for them were not found on the reviewed page.

What to verify

Ask how many prompts per location sit behind a visibility score, and which agent actions publish automatically versus routing for approval.

Verdict: The closest like-for-like Yext alternative in this comparison, with a broader named engine list on the reviewed page.

3. Uberall GEO Studio: Best for European multi-location estates

Uberall is a Berlin multi-location marketing platform founded in 2013, powering more than 1.4 million business locations for over 1,800 customers and partners on the page reviewed on September 23, 2026. It launched GEO Studio in 2026 in partnership with AthenaHQ, combining AI visibility monitoring, a generative content engine and automated distribution, on top of listings syndication to more than 150 directories.

Best for

European and global brands that already run listings through Uberall and want AI visibility in the same contract.

Limitations

The named AI engines behind GEO Studio monitoring were not found on the reviewed pages, and the monitoring layer is delivered with a partner rather than built in-house.

What to verify

Ask which engines AthenaHQ samples for your markets and languages, and whether the generative content engine publishes to your own site or to third-party surfaces.

Verdict: A strong fit for European estates. Ask harder questions about engine coverage than the public pages answer.

4. SOCi: Best for franchise networks with local social

SOCi sells a Genius Local Search Agent that monitors listings, rankings and engagement per location, then publishes optimisations automatically or through approval workflows. Its page names Google and ChatGPT as the surfaces it optimises for, and it reports that agent-managed programmes reach twice the local search and AI visibility of self-managed ones, in a channel where it says only 1.2% of locations get recommended at all.

Best for

Franchise and multi-unit brands where local social and reviews drive the same signals as search.

Limitations

Google and ChatGPT are the only two AI surfaces named on the reviewed page, against seven named on the Birdeye page. The performance figures are vendor-reported, and a published method for them was not found on the reviewed page.

What to verify

Ask for the denominator behind the 1.2% recommendation figure and how many AI engines are sampled per location.

Verdict: The best fit in this comparison for franchisee-operated networks, weaker as a pure AI measurement tool.

5. BrightLocal: Best for agencies and small location counts

BrightLocal added a Local AI Visibility Tracker that reports how a business appears across ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews, and states that it is included in all plans with no extra AI subscription. The platform pairs that with rank tracking, a local search grid, citation building and AI Insights, which turns report data into prioritised actions.

Best for

Agencies and single-site or small multi-site businesses that want AI visibility beside geo-grid rankings at a self-serve price.

Limitations

A third-party pricing roundup lists the entry Track plan at $29 per month billed annually for one location, and the rate scales linearly with each location added, so a thousand-store estate lands far from the self-serve price point. Enterprise-scale pricing was not found on the reviewed plan pages.

What to verify

Check how many prompts per location the tracker runs, and whether your markets outside the United States and United Kingdom are covered.

Verdict: The lowest-friction way to start measuring local AI visibility in this comparison.

6. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit: Best for brand-level prompts without locations

The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit publishes its price, which most platforms in this comparison do not: $99 per domain per month, covering 25 prompts tracked daily, 300 daily queries in AI analysis reports and 10 CSV exports a day across engines such as ChatGPT and Google AI Mode. For a team already inside Semrush, it puts AI answer share next to the keyword, backlink and position data that team already reads every week, with no new vendor, no new contract and no new login.

Best for

Teams already paying for Semrush that need brand-level AI visibility for one domain.

Limitations

Twenty-five tracked prompts is a small panel for a brand with several product lines or markets, and each extra user needs another licence. A location-level unit of analysis and a free trial were not found on the reviewed page.

What to verify

Confirm that your actual buyer questions can be entered as custom prompts rather than inferred from an index.

Verdict: The cheapest published entry in this comparison, and the least suited to a multi-location estate.

How to decide between Yext and an alternative

Pick Yext if your revenue is earned location by location and you want measurement and listings execution under one enterprise contract. Pick an alternative when one of the conditions below applies.

  • Choose Yext if you run dozens to thousands of locations, need competitor benchmarking per location and already rely on the Knowledge Graph for publisher distribution.
  • Choose Canlah AI if your buyers ask category and comparison questions, you need raw answers you can re-run, or you need off-site authority work that no listings feed can deliver.
  • Choose Birdeye Search AI if you want the widest named engine list with agent-led fixes per location.
  • Choose Uberall GEO Studio if your estate is European and listings already run there.
  • Choose SOCi if franchisees publish their own local social and reviews.
  • Choose BrightLocal or the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit if you have few locations and a published budget.

Whatever you shortlist, ask each finalist for the raw answers and cited URLs behind one location-level score, because a visibility number you cannot trace is hard to defend in a budget review.

Frequently asked questions

Is Yext AI visibility any good?

Yext is a reasonable choice for AI visibility when a brand has many physical locations, because Scout measures win rate location by location across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity plus Google surfaces, and can act on listings, reviews and local pages. It is less suited to brands whose buyers ask category questions rather than “near me” questions, and to teams that need Chinese-engine coverage.

How much does Yext Scout cost?

A published price was not found on the Yext pages reviewed on September 23, 2026. Its pricing FAQ states that Scout can be bought standalone or inside a packaged solution, that price is based on location or provider count multiplied by a unit rate, that billing is annual and that multi-year terms earn better rates. A free tier and a standard free trial were not found on the same pages, and third-party G2 data puts deal values in the thousands of dollars per year.

What did the Yext AI citations study find?

Yext analysed 6.8 million AI citations from 1.6 million queries per model across ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity between July 1 and August 31, 2025, and reported that 86% came from brand-managed sources: 44% first-party websites, 42% listings and 8% reviews or social. Forums such as Reddit accounted for 2%. A Q4 2025 refresh of 17.2 million citations put the controllable share at 90.6%.

Which AI engines does Yext Scout track?

Scout tracks ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity alongside Google Search, Google Maps and Google AI Overviews, across branded and unbranded searches. Google AI Mode was not named in the Scout engine FAQ reviewed on September 23, 2026, and DeepSeek, Qwen and Doubao were not found on the reviewed pages.

What are the best Yext alternatives for multi-location brands?

Birdeye Search AI is the closest like-for-like alternative in this comparison, Uberall GEO Studio suits European estates, SOCi fits franchise networks and BrightLocal serves small location counts. Canlah AI is the alternative for category-level visibility and off-site work rather than listings management.

Can Yext or any alternative guarantee that ChatGPT recommends my locations?

No. A platform or an agency can guarantee sampling, reporting and agreed work. It cannot control how an independent model answers every question, so treat any recommendation guarantee as a sales claim and ask for the evidence archive instead.

How is Canlah AI different from Yext?

Yext measures and fixes location-level presence through listings, reviews and local pages at enterprise scale. Canlah AI runs a locked query pool under phrasing rotation across engines, hands over a raw evidence archive the client owns, and then does on-site, content and off-site authority work. Brands with large estates often need both, and can start with a free 48-hour snapshot of their category baseline.
