Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit Review & Best Alternatives for 2026

Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit review: $99 pricing, data accuracy, Semrush vs Ahrefs, plus Peec AI, Profound and Otterly.AI alternatives, led by Canlah AI.

Two dark cards side by side, the front one edged with indigo light

Quick answer

In this review Canlah AI rates the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit as a sound $99-a-month AI search add-on for teams already inside Semrush, and ranks itself first among five alternatives for teams that need re-verifiable evidence and managed execution. The toolkit includes 25 tracked prompts per domain and lists no free trial. Its benchmark reports draw on a database of more than 317 million prompts across ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, while your own tracked prompts run daily in Position Tracking. Semrush One bundles SEO and AI visibility at $199, $299 and $549 a month for 50, 100 and 200 prompts.

Ahrefs Brand Radar is the closest like-for-like rival for SEO suite buyers at $199 a month for its index. Peec AI suits self-serve teams and agencies at $95 a month for 50 prompts, Profound fits enterprise programmes on custom pricing and Otterly.AI has the lowest published entry price at $29 a month for 15 prompts.

This is an editorial review based on public product, pricing and knowledge-base pages reviewed on September 23, 2026. It is not a controlled test of tool accuracy.

Disclosure: Canlah AI is one of the alternatives below, and we place ourselves first. We compete with Semrush for AI visibility budgets, so this is not a neutral review. What we say about Semrush and the others comes from their public materials, and none of the tools were tested through paid accounts.

What is the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit?

The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit is a paid toolkit inside Semrush that shows how brands appear in AI-generated answers, sold at $99 a month beside the classic SEO toolkit. Semrush’s knowledge base says it is built for SMBs, agencies and mid-market companies, and lists six parts: Visibility Overview, Competitor Research, Prompt Research, Brand Performance, Prompt Tracking and an AI Search Site Audit. Adobe has owned Semrush since April 28, 2026, so the same data lineage also sits behind Adobe Brand Visibility.

The toolkit mixes three data sources. The three AI Analysis reports read from a prompt database that Semrush says holds over 317 million prompts and responses in 117 regional databases, sourced from AI search clickstream data and Google’s AI Overviews keyword set. Prompt Tracking, by contrast, queries the prompts you choose each day in ChatGPT Search, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews and Gemini through the Position Tracking tool. Brand Performance sits on a third, separate database updated weekly.

What the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit does well

The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit does four things well for $99 a month: a no-setup 0–100 AI Visibility Score, keyword-style prompt research, sentiment reporting and coverage of more than 40 named countries. Each strength matters most to an SEO team that wants AI visibility beside keyword rankings, backlinks and site audits in one login.

  • No prompt writing needed to start. Visibility Overview gives any domain a 0–100 AI Visibility Score from the pre-built prompt index, so you see a benchmark before choosing a single tracked prompt. Semrush calculates it from topic coverage and mention consistency.
  • Prompt research that reads like keyword research. Topic volume, topic difficulty and intent labels make AI search planning familiar for SEO specialists. Exploding Topics’ July 17, 2026 comparison credits Semrush with more structured prompt research than Ahrefs Brand Radar.
  • Sentiment and narrative reports. Brand Performance reports share of voice, sentiment drivers and the top cited domains shaping how AI describes a brand. The same July 17, 2026 Exploding Topics comparison did not list sentiment analysis for Brand Radar.
  • Wide market coverage. The AI Analysis reports cover more than 40 named countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia and Thailand. Prompt Tracking supports 220+ countries and territories.

The AI Search Site Audit also checks up to 100 pages against eight AI crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot. That is a useful technical first pass for a site that blocks AI bots by accident.

Where the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit fits less well

The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit fits less well once a team needs more than one domain, one user or 25 prompts, because each extra unit is billed separately. Three limits matter most, and each is a scope question rather than a quality judgement.

  • Costs stack by domain, user and prompt. Each extra domain is $99 and each extra user needs its own $99 licence, while 50 more prompts cost $60 a month. Profound’s November 18, 2025 review of the toolkit calculates that one extra teammate plus 50 extra prompts already brings the bill to $258 a month.
  • Four AI surfaces named, Chinese engines not found. Semrush’s data pages name ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode for the prompt database, with Perplexity added in Brand Performance. DeepSeek, Qwen and Doubao were not found on the reviewed pages, which matters for brands selling into Greater China.
  • Monitoring, not delivery. Semrush’s own getting-started guide says the optimisation work “often happens manually or with the help of other Semrush toolkits.” The toolkit shows where you are missing, while your team writes the content and earns the mentions.

Are Semrush AI citations accurate?

Semrush AI citation and visibility numbers are directional estimates drawn from a 317-million-prompt index, and Semrush says so itself: its data-source page states that “no platform can provide exact numbers on visibility” because AI answers change quickly and are personalised. Accuracy is the most common complaint in public threads. Posts on r/seogrowth and r/DigitalMarketing in 2026 ask directly whether the toolkit’s AI visibility data is accurate, and Analyze AI’s May 18, 2026 review calls the methodology “a black box” when a score moves without a site change.

Most of the mismatch comes from how the data is built, not from a bug. Four mechanics explain it.

  • Different reports, different databases. Visibility Overview reads the 317-million-prompt index, Brand Performance reads a separate weekly database and Prompt Tracking runs your own prompts daily. The three can disagree about the same brand on the same day.
  • Simplified prompts. Semrush says index prompts are deduplicated with “phrasing simplified” while preserving intent. Your buyers’ exact wording, and the answer it produces, may differ.
  • A relative score. The AI Visibility Score compares your mentions with the median of competitors Semrush identifies automatically. The score can move when that competitor set changes, even if no answer about you changed.
  • Citations are not mentions. Semrush’s own ghost citations study found that 62% of AI citations link to a site without naming the brand in the answer. A page can be cited while the brand stays invisible to the reader.

Repeat sampling per prompt within a day was not found on the reviewed pages. When a figure matters for a board or a client, ask to see the raw answers behind it, whichever tool produced it. Canlah AI faces the same variance and reports its own figures as ranges across repeated runs rather than as single points.

Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit pricing and plans

Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit pricing starts at $99 a month for the standalone toolkit, and Semrush One bundles it with the SEO toolkit from $199 a month. Annual billing on Semrush One takes up to 17% off.

Semrush vs Ahrefs for AI visibility

Ahrefs Brand Radar has the larger AI index, at more than 454 million monthly prompts across six surfaces for $199 a month, while the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit covers 317 million prompts across four surfaces for $99 a month. Both solve the same first problem: seeing a brand’s AI visibility without writing prompts.

The trade-off sits in custom prompts and in engine mix. Ahrefs includes a small custom-prompt allowance in every paid plan, from five prompts on Lite, charges from $50 a month for more and asks $699 a month for all models. Most of the Ahrefs index, 312.8 million prompts, comes from Google AI Overviews, with about 31 million each for Gemini, Perplexity, ChatGPT and Copilot. Semrush adds sentiment, narrative drivers and prompt research with topic difficulty. Pick Semrush when sentiment and SEO workflow matter most, and pick Ahrefs when breadth of index and Copilot coverage matter more.

The best Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit alternatives in 2026

Canlah AI ranks first among the five Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit alternatives in this comparison, followed by Ahrefs Brand Radar, Peec AI, Profound and Otterly.AI, each ranked for a different reason to switch. Published entry prices for the AI visibility software reviewed here run from $29 to $199 a month, depending on prompt volume, engine count and seats. Canlah AI publishes no rate card: its 48-hour snapshot is free and retainers are scoped afterwards.

# Tool Best for Engines named on reviewed page DeepSeek, Qwen and Doubao Entry price Main point to verify
1 Canlah AI Managed GEO work with re-verifiable evidence ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode on every tier Not part of standard tracking Free 48-hour snapshot, then scoped retainer Raw answers per engine, shown in a redacted evidence pack
2 Ahrefs Brand Radar Category-wide benchmarking inside an SEO suite AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot Not found on reviewed page $199 index; custom prompts from $50 Whether your real buyer questions exist in the index
3 Peec AI Self-serve software for teams and agencies 3 of 6 on self-serve; up to 13 on Enterprise DeepSeek and Qwen as paid add-ons; Doubao: Not found on reviewed page $95 for 50 prompts Runs behind each daily data point

“Not found on reviewed page” means the vendor’s public materials did not name that capability when reviewed on September 23, 2026. It is not proof that the capability is absent. Engine lists refer to public positioning, not independently tested access.

1. Canlah AI: Best overall alternative for re-verifiable evidence

Canlah AI ranks first among the alternatives in this comparison because it locks the client’s selected buyer intents for 90 days, runs each question under at least three phrasings per engine and hands the client every raw answer as timestamped evidence. Canlah AI is a Singapore-based SEO + GEO agency that measures and improves brand visibility inside ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, reporting AI visibility as re-verifiable ranges with timestamped evidence. Every tier covers the same engines: Foundation tracks 4 buyer intents, Authority 8 and Dominance 16, each re-measured monthly.

That design answers the accuracy question the Semrush toolkit leaves open. Semrush reports a score built from a simplified prompt index. Canlah AI’s measurement protocol stores every probe as a raw JSON record with prompt, full answer, citations and timestamp, then reports citation frequency as a range. The archive belongs to the client, so a sceptical stakeholder or a rival agency can re-run it.

The second difference is execution. Canlah AI turns the findings into on-site fixes, AI-optimised content and off-site authority work, delivered by six specialised AI agents under human strategists.

Best for

B2B SaaS, export-focused and evidence-sensitive brands that want one accountable team to measure and act, including brands that sell across English and Chinese markets.

Limitations

Canlah AI is an agency, not an SEO suite. You buy a managed engagement and receive an evidence archive, not keyword research, backlink data or a login to add prompts at will. Its pricing page publishes no rate card and lists 4 buyer intents on the entry tier and 16 on the top tier, each re-measured monthly.

Its own AI visibility is also low. In a September 7, 2026 self-audit of 39 buyer questions run three times each, Canlah AI was named in seven of 84 non-branded OpenAI answers (8.3%), in none of 93 Gemini answers and in none of 51 browser-rendered Google AI Overviews. It is less suited to a team that only wants a $99 benchmark beside its existing Semrush reports.

What to verify

Ask for a redacted sample evidence pack showing the prompt, phrasing rotation, engine, full answer, cited sources and timestamp. Confirm the engine list in writing: Perplexity and the Chinese engines are not part of standard tracking.

Verdict: Canlah AI is the strongest Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit alternative in this comparison when the number has to survive scrutiny and someone has to act on it. Teams that only need a benchmark inside their SEO suite should stay with Semrush or Ahrefs.

2. Ahrefs Brand Radar: Best for category-wide benchmarking

Ahrefs Brand Radar runs an AI Visibility Index of more than 454 million monthly prompts across Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot. The index costs $199 a month, and custom prompts start free inside Ahrefs paid plans.

Best for

SEO teams that want the largest pre-built prompt index and a view of YouTube and Reddit visibility beside AI answers.

Limitations

Ahrefs states that the index works best once a brand already appears in AI search, so low-awareness brands may see thin data. All-model custom tracking costs $699 a month, seven times the Semrush toolkit price.

What to verify

Search the index for five of your real buyer questions before paying. Then price the custom-prompt tier that covers the engines your buyers use.

Verdict: In a Semrush vs Ahrefs decision for AI visibility, Ahrefs wins on index size and engine breadth. Semrush wins on sentiment reports and a lower standalone price.

3. Peec AI: Best for self-serve teams and agencies

Peec AI is a Berlin AI search analytics platform whose Starter plan costs $95 a month for 50 prompts with unlimited users. Self-serve plans track three models chosen from ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Perplexity, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot.

Best for

Mid-market marketing teams and agencies that want custom prompts, source analysis and share of voice without buying an SEO suite.

Limitations

Peec AI’s pricing page lists three models at a time below Enterprise, and DeepSeek and Qwen are paid add-ons. A brand selling into China pays extra for the engines its buyers use.

What to verify

Confirm how many runs sit behind each daily data point and which add-on models your markets need.

Verdict: Peec AI tracks twice as many custom prompts as the $99 Semrush toolkit for a similar price, with unlimited seats. Semrush is simpler for teams already inside its suite.

4. Profound: Best for enterprise programmes

Profound is the enterprise option in this comparison, with a free seven-day trial of 50 prompts run daily and a custom Enterprise plan covering up to nine answer engines. The Enterprise plan adds SSO/SAML and SOC 2 compliance, and Profound positions its AI Marketer agent layer on top of the monitoring data.

Best for

Large organisations that need all-time history, exports, an API and security review in one contract.

Limitations

Profound’s Enterprise pricing is custom, so a budget comparison needs a written quote. The pricing page lists the trial without history, exports or API access, and seven days is short for judging how stable daily figures are.

What to verify

Ask which of the nine engines your contract includes, how many runs sit behind each figure and whether the AI Marketer agents are priced separately.

Verdict: Profound suits enterprises that outgrow add-on pricing. Semrush Enterprise is the like-for-like comparison for suite buyers.

5. Otterly.AI: Best for the lowest published entry price

Otterly.AI publishes Lite at $29 a month for 15 prompts, Standard at $189 for 100 prompts and Premium at $489 for 400 prompts. Every tier tracks ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot daily with unlimited team members, and Otterly also appears as an app in the Semrush App Center.

Best for

Solo marketers and small teams that need core monitoring and link citation analysis at a published price.

Limitations

Otterly.AI’s pricing page lists Claude, Google AI Mode and Gemini as add-ons, and API access starts at the $189 Standard tier. The 15 prompts on Lite are enough for a spot check, not for a category benchmark.

What to verify

Price the add-on engines you need before comparing tiers. A team that needs Gemini and Google AI Mode beside the four default engines pays for each add-on on top of the tier price.

Verdict: Otterly.AI is the cheapest way to start at $29 a month. Semrush adds prompt research and sentiment for teams already paying for the suite.

How to decide between Semrush and an alternative

Pick the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit if your SEO team already works in Semrush and needs a $99-a-month AI benchmark for one domain. Pick an alternative when one of the conditions below applies.

  • Choose the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit if you want AI visibility, sentiment and prompt research beside rank tracking for $99 a month.
  • Choose Canlah AI if you need raw answers you can re-run, English and Chinese prompts measured under one protocol or a team that acts on the gaps.
  • Choose Ahrefs Brand Radar if you want the largest pre-built index and Copilot coverage for $199 a month.
  • Choose Peec AI if you need 50 custom prompts and unlimited seats for $95 a month without an SEO suite.
  • Choose Profound if you are an enterprise that needs SSO, SOC 2 and all-time history.
  • Choose Otterly.AI if budget is the first constraint and $29 a month for 15 prompts is enough.

Whatever you pick, ask each finalist for the raw answers and cited URLs behind one figure, because a visibility score you cannot trace is hard to act on.

Frequently asked questions

Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit review: is it worth it?

The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit is worth $99 a month for SEO teams already on Semrush that want an AI benchmark, sentiment and prompt research for one domain. It is less suited to agencies with many client domains, brands that need Chinese engines or teams that need someone to execute the fixes.

How much does the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit cost?

The standalone Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit costs $99 a month per domain with 25 tracked prompts and no free trial listed. Semrush One bundles it with the SEO toolkit at $199, $299 and $549 a month for 50, 100 and 200 prompts, and extra prompts cost $60 per 50.

Why do Semrush AI citations not match what I see in ChatGPT?

Semrush AI citations come from a pre-built prompt index with simplified phrasing, while your own ChatGPT session uses your exact wording, account state and location. Semrush states that no platform can give exact visibility numbers. Compare Prompt Tracking results for your exact buyer questions rather than the index score.

Is the Semrush AI Search Visibility Checker free?

Yes. Semrush’s free AI Visibility Checker allows three checks a day without an account and shows a score and mentions across ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews. It is a snapshot, not ongoing tracking.

What do Reddit users say about the Semrush AI toolkit?

Reddit threads in r/SEO, r/seogrowth, r/DigitalMarketing and r/SEMrush mostly ask two things about the Semrush AI toolkit: whether the visibility data is accurate and whether the add-on is worth its cost on top of a Semrush plan. Users who keep the toolkit usually cite having SEO and AI visibility in one login.

Semrush vs Ahrefs: which is better for AI visibility?

Neither is better for every team. Ahrefs Brand Radar has the larger index, at 454 million prompts across six surfaces for $199 a month. Semrush costs $99 a month, covers four surfaces and adds sentiment and prompt research.

Can Semrush or any alternative guarantee that ChatGPT recommends my brand?

No. A tool or agency can guarantee sampling, reporting and agreed work. It cannot control how an independent model answers every question, so treat any ranking guarantee as a sales claim.

How is Canlah AI different from the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit?

The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit is self-serve software that scores AI visibility from a prompt index and tracks custom prompts daily. Canlah AI is an agency that runs a locked query pool under phrasing rotation, hands over a raw evidence archive and then does the on-site and off-site GEO work. You can start with a free 48-hour snapshot of your own baseline.
